Greetings,

A quick dip into your favorite dictionary will show you that the word collaborate means to "work together." The advantages and effectiveness of a collaborative effort is epitomized by the working relationship of the Delta County Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Alliance, Builders Exchange and the Convention and Visitors Bureau. Not only do all the organizations share office space and support personnel, but they also share a desire to see that all our economic development missions are accomplished.

The most obvious benefits of our organizations' partnership are maximized resources

and minimized duplication of administrative services resulting in better service to our community. In our lines of work, collaboration is not only good, it is essential if we are going to continue to work toward economic growth and prosperity. This growth becomes easier as more organizations work together for the common good.

By collaborating, our organizations actively represent business interests with a strong advocacy presence. We work together to spread the good word about Delta County, provide networking opportunities, and support community events. This year we continue to be efficient as we prepare for this year's events.

NMU and Bay College Enter Agreement for Art and Design Programs

Click Here for 2012 2013 Catalog

MARQUETTE, Mich.-Northern Michigan University and Bay de Noc Community College of Escanaba have entered into a three-year articulation agreement that provides a direct path from an associate in art degree to a bachelor of fine arts (BFA) degree. Under the pact, students who complete Bay College's two-year program can transfer to NMU to pursue a BFA in one of four concentrations: painting and drawing, ceramics, photography or graphic communication.

"The agreement is a benefit to transferring students as it creates a more transparent transition between Bay and NMU," said NMU Professor Stephan Larson. "It creates a structure in which students can complete a bachelor of fine arts (BFA) degree in four years: two years at Bay and two years at NMU. Bay is one of the first schools that had a sufficiently similar curricular structure to NMU's School of Art and Design to create articulation agreements in photography, graphic communication, drawing/painting, and ceramics."

Beth Noreus, Bay transfer adviser and coordinator, added, "Articulation agreements provide a clearly-defined set of courses that will allow students to have a seamless transfer while identifying all of the courses that will be need for degree completion.  This is a win-win agreement for our respective colleges and students."

For more information, contact Bay College at 906-217-4043, Bay College West in Iron Mountain at 906-217-3185, or NMU at 800-682-9797.

This Weekend:  Walk for Warmth

From Community Action:

We can't say enough about all the support we received for our Big Brat Sale Feb. 8. Now it's time for the main event. The Delta County Walk for Warmth is Saturday at the Elks Lodge on the 500 block of Ludington Street.

All funds from the walk go directly to utilities for Delta County residents who are having trouble paying their home heating bills. Please, check out the links below to a pledge sheet to help garner donations, attached to this article you can also find a personal pledge sheet.  Drop off the completed forms and donations between 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the Elks, or mail them to us (507 1st Ave. N., Escanaba, MI  49829). You're certainly invited to take part in the short, symbolic walk, but it's just great if you only want to donate. Thanks for considering this incredible community event!
