The Chamber of Commerce continues to find resourceful ways to use electronic communication channels to better serve our Members and enhance their presence in our community. As our "Email Blasts" have become a popular way to communicate events, sales, and more to our community, it is evident that during certain times of the year, they can overwhelm an email inbox. The Chamber's goal is to provide efficient communication about our members while maintaining quality customer service.

Therefore, along with our "Fast Facts" emails that are sent out Monday, you will also find the Email Blast Magazine. This magazine is a weekly compilation of all the Email blasts pertaining to that week that include offers, discounts, community event information and much more. If you have an email blast planned, please schedule accordingly. Deadline for submission is Monday at 12:00 PM.

Please let us know what you think about our Email Blast Maganize. Send your thoughts to info@deltami.org or give us a call (906) 786 2192. For this week's Email Blast Magazine...

OSF Receives State Recognition for Quality Care

OSF St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group has received the Michigan Center for Rural Health's 2012 "Spirit of Quality Award" for its efforts with outpatient vancomycin administration and management. Vancomycin is an antibiotic given intravenously to treat infections caused by bacteria.

"Spirit of Quality Award recipients are committed to providing their patients with high quality health care," said John Barnas, Executive Director of the Michigan Center for Rural Health. "The Michigan Center for Rural Health is pleased to sponsor this award which recognizes the dedication of hospital staff to provide the right care to the right patient each and every time."

"We strive to provide the very best in medical care and appreciate this award as recognition of our efforts," said Michelle Miron, manager of ambulatory care and surgical services at OSF. "OSF St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group is committed to the principles of quality improvement that embrace evidence-based medicine to improve health outcomes." Miron, who served as business leader for the project, stated physicians and staff at OSF made meaningful changes to benefit patients and enhance the level of care provided. Efforts were focused on service, delivery and quality. Team members reviewed current processes and created interventions that improved its outpatient vancomycin administration and management.

OSF was honored by The Michigan Center for Rural Health at an awards ceremony during the 13th Annual Michigan Critical Access Hospital Conference in November in Boyne Falls, Michigan. The Michigan Center for Rural Health is a non-profit organization formed in 1991 as part of a nation-wide, federal and state initiative to recognize the importance of rural health care and to create a mechanism for resources to flow to rural areas.

OSF St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group is a fully-integrated healthcare facility with hospital, physician and home based services. It is part of OSF Healthcare System, headquartered in Peoria, Ill.

Dear Community,

The 1st Annual FurRaiser Banquet Dinner that took place October 18th was an enormous success, and we want to thank everyone that participated in the event. We want to thank the businesses that donated auction items and sponsorship money. We also want to thank every single person that bought tickets and came out to support us the night of the vent.

And then, we would like to especially thank The Island Resort and Casino for decorating and helping us host the event.

We greatly exceeded our financial goal, and we have the public to thank for that.

All of the proceeds raised from that night will fuel our daily operations for next year. This event is and always will be crucial for us to continue serving the county citizens.

We look forward to our 2nd Annual FurRaiser, which will be held October 24th, 2013.

Sincerely,

Delta County Animal Shelter

The Annual FurRaiser Banquet Dinner benefits the Delta Animal Shelter. The Delta Animal Shelter was formed in August of 2011, when Delta County scheduled the closure of the animal shelter due to budget cuts. The members of the Delta Area Animal Society took over operations of the animal shelter to prevent the doors from permanently closing. The society is now part of the membership of the Delta Animal Shelter.

The Delta County Technology Planning Team (DCTPT) will be meeting on Tuesday, December 4th, 2012 in the Delta County Commerce Center. The DCTPT is off to a great start to assess the technology resources in Delta County.

During the October 30th meeting the team completed assessment worksheets in an effort to understand the technology resources present in Delta County. The assessment has three parts: Adoption, Use, and Access.

The assessment for Access was completed by Tom Stephenson, Connect Michigan's Community Technology Advisor, which he presented to the group during the meeting. Delta County's Access Score is 23 out of 40 possible points.

Through the completion of the assessment sheets, the team provided information about digital literacy, public computer centers, broadband awareness, and vulnerable population focus to provide a score for the Adoption part of the county's assessment. The team also provided information on how technology is currently used for economic opportunity, education, government, and healthcare.

"The assessment is an opportunity to understand what is already available in the county and create a plan to fill any technology gaps in our community. Most important, this plan will give us a grant-ready document if a funding opportunity presents itself," explained Vicki Schwab, Director of the Economic Development Alliance (DCEDA).

During the December 4th meeting, the team will begin focusing on the next step in completing a comprehensive action plan to develop a technology-ready community.

Through this initiative, Connect Michigan collaborates with the Michigan Public Service Commission and the DCTPT to develop and implement effective strategies to enhance technology access, adoption, and use in Michigan. The DCEDA headed an initiative to create the technology planning team. The team is composed of representatives from public and private entities.
