Anatomy of a Million Dollar Home...
What are Your Cabinets
Telling you?
Kitchen cabinets speak. And, what they say can tell a lot about the home - and the homeowner. Are the cabinets made of dark, rich wood, lending a soft glow to the room? Or, are they utilitarian, made to store with as much practicality as possible? Either way, the homeowners' taste and ideas of what works best in a kitchen come through loud and clear.
Someone shopping for a home is going to first look at three places--the kitchen, master bath, and closets.
In a new Towles home, kitchen cabinets spell quality and craftsmanship. Many of our new homes boast custom-made cabinets, although brand names such as Omega offer top-of-the-line quality. Baby boomers seem to gravitate toward high-end brand names. You won't find anything made in China in our custom home cabinetry. There is no scrimping. Everything is domestic.
Types of kitchen cabinets vary, ranging from face frame to frameless to glass doors to raised panel doors. Frameless cabinets, in which full access to the contents is offered when the doors are opened, are very popular.
Cabinet-door inserts can be made of unique materials such as louvered panels, hole caning, patterned tin or wire grating. The right lighting is also decorative - and important. In the kitchen, it's especially important to get the lighting balance right for safety and comfort.
With any kitchen, layout is important. What the cabinets lend to the space - what they say - is often the last word.
