Continental Tile, a fixture in Charlotte County for many years, offers and installs all types of tile and marble. It also fabricates and installs granite countertops. According to Steve Lombardo, owner, who oversees the full service company with ten employees, "They do it all."
Tony Maresca, Tile and Installation Manager, joined Continental Tile a year ago. His thirty-five years in the industry (including fifteen years working in his own business with Towles Corp) gives him direct knowledge of TowlesCorp's client's likes.
Continental Tile's showroom is open to the public 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. It includes an indoor granite showroom and tile selections.

We Are Busy!
Things are really popping!
We have 8 projects that are in full swing right now...five new homes plus our new model and two remodeling projects. It's great to see the upswing, not only for our business but for the entire community.
Each new construction project uses a variety of subcontractors - block masons, roofing, framers, windows, insulation, painters, drywall, flooring, plumbers, HVAC, etc. - and each of those companies supply a group of workers for each home. The workers, plus the supplies and products used, all add to increasing the local economy.
Our fabulous weather, beautiful communities, golf courses, beaches and waterfront properties all call to our Northern friends and families and give us locals a good reason to stay right where we are...in our little piece of Paradise!
Thanks for all your support!

Anatomy of a Million Dollar Home...
Cool Tile Choices Abound
in Today's Market!
Tile is an important design element of our Florida homes. Early mud and clay tiles date back 7000 years. Today, most tiles found in the home are of porcelain, ceramic, or natural stone.
Manufacturers (even artisan tile makers) develop clay recipes. Once formed, drying of tiles is very important to prevent cracking and warping. When dry, a glaze is applied and the tiles are fired in special ovens some as hot as 2000 degrees.
Ceramic tiles are the most cost effective. The tile is easier for installers to cut because they are not as hard. There are also more color options. The tiles can be painted or glazed.

Porcelain tile has greater strength then ceramic and is more impervious. This makes it suitable for inte-rior and exterior applications. And it is 30% harder then natural stone. Usually, porcelain tile color goes clear through.
Granite and marble are popular natural stone alternatives to ceramic and porcelain tiles. One will see more variance in the design of stone. For these, stone is cut and polished in different dimensions.
Over the years, we have seen many changes in the industry. In the 1950's when tile became common in American bathrooms, they were generally small and square. Today's tiles have grown bigger - a lot bigger. Homeowners can choose designs of 24" x 24" or 32" x 32" in size. Rectangular shapes are currently popular, as are wood and stone designs.

The majority of our homeowners select 24" porcelain tiles, although travertine is another favorite. We will be using some of the newest styles in our new model.
