"I'm planning on using tile as flooring, but am worried about the tile cracking in the future..."
When selecting tile, most people focus on the beauty and color of the tile and its inherent strength. The other important feature should be how the tile is installed. Not just the pattern of how it's laid, but what goes on beneath to secure the tile to the flooring.
It is the nature of concrete slabs to have stress cracks due to shrinkage when it dries or cures. Tony Maresca of Tony's Tile Service West, Inc likes to make sure the tile will look as good in years to come as it does when it's first installed. His answer to this question..."An important component in the installation process is using a crack suppression membrane. Our product of choice is LATICRETEŽ Blue 92 Ani-Fracture Membrane. It is a two part system consisting of a liquid rubber and reinforcing fabric. When cured, it forms a highly flexible membrane that reduces or eliminates cracks in the tile."
