Dear ROAS friends & supporters,
Happy, Happy New Year!
Please take a moment to see how we finished 2012 and how we are beginning 2013. |
ROAS December Update: |
On Friday, December 14th, 10,000 Villages, located in Rice Village, hosted a ROAS Shopping Night from 6-8 PM. Proceeds from the event went into the ROAS Angels of Assistance Scholarship fund. If you, or you know of someone, who is in need of a scholarship (about $200 or less) to cover a need that cannot be paid for due to the variety of financial hardships that come with breast cancer, please email or have them email jill.schoeffler@gmail.com for an application. It is possible to complete an application on behalf of someone else if you can provide the information requirement to determine the need of the recipient. The December Methodist Willowbrook ROAS group meeting ended up more than just a typical holiday party. Faith Thurman, an 8th grade student from Hamilton HISD, needed to do a community service project with a real world application. She decided to make Pink Ornaments as gifts to give to our members in her Aunt France's honor who was diagnosed with IBC this summer. The ROAS group was extremely touched by her beautiful craft, her dedication to her aunt and the enthusiasm she expressed at the meeting. Moreover, Faith said afterwards, "What started out as a project ended up being something I really enjoyed." Friends, that is a display of the true Christmas spirit. |
January Upcoming Event: |
On January 26th Willowbrook Methodist ROAS will host another Pink Ribbons Fleece Blanket Project. From 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM. We will complete the remaining blankets to be embroidered with "Faith, Hope & Love" as well as those that have already been embroidered, but still need to have their corners tied and to be packaged. The finished blankets will be given to breast cancer patients from various hospitals in and around Houston. Light refreshments will be provided.
Email jill.schoeffler@gmail.com to RSVP,
get directions or inquire for more information.
Don't forger that in addition to all upcoming events, our monthly group sessions continue year round. For locations, dates and times of each group meeting, please click on name of the venue in column on the upper left side and find a group nearest to you or someone you know! |
Jenny's January Nutrition Nugget: |
Go Green in 2013!
I wanted to give you a nutrient packed juice recipe to start off the New Year! Don't worry about the beautiful GREEN color. I promise, it's delicious! Think of it as an "Apple Lemonade". I drink it several mornings a week for breakfast. No eggs, no bacon, no cereal, no yogurt. Just a glass of fresh living juice! Give it a try.
Groovy Green Juice
1 lemon (cut off peel before putting it in the juicer)
1 whole apple
1 whole cucumber
Celery (4 or 5 stalks)
For an added bonus, pour the juice in your blender and add a hand full of fresh spinach and a few frozen seeded grapes. Remember to use organic produce whenever possible. Enjoy!
Happy New Year!
