Amy Beasley, DNP, RN, CHPN 



Amy Beasley, DNP, RN, CHPN, is an Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama Capstone College of Nursing. She is also a PhD Student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her interest is in palliative care access, especially in rural communities and underserved populations.


She earned a BS in Finance in 2003 and worked in the financial industry prior to her BSN in May 2008. Subsequently, she earned a MSN in Case Management in 2011 and a DNP in 2012. She has returned to school to earn a PhD in Nursing in an effort to contribute to new knowledge in palliative and hospice care in the future.


Contribute to Exam Development by Attending 
the Upcoming Item Writer Workshop 


The Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center is offering you a unique opportunity to make a direct contribution to developing our certification examinations, by attending an upcoming Item Writer Workshop.  The workshop, titled Secrets of Competency Testing: Writing Items for Hospice and Palliative Certification Exams, is scheduled for Monday, October 24, from 11:00am to 12:30pm, ET


Individuals who have a strong knowledge base in hospice and palliative care are welcome to attend. Expertise in item writing or test development is not required.


The workshop is offered as a three-part course, where the first two parts are done online, and the live workshop is the third part. The workshop is offered three times throughout the year. Upon completion of all three parts and the post-test and evaluation, you will receive 3.5 contact hours. Nursing assistants will receive a certificate of participation.

Testing in 2016

December is the last opportunity to test in 2016, so apply early! 



The application period for December 2016 testing begins on September 1. Paper applications are due October 15, while the online application deadline is a month later, on November 15, 2016. Be sure to download or print the appropriate handbook for the exam you plan to take.  The candidate handbooks are available online through our website at www.goHPCC.org, and contain information on each exam, which includes how to apply, fees, schedules, detailed test content outline of the information covered on the exam, suggested references for study, and much more!


Be sure to view the 2016 certification application fee schedule. Members of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA) continue to receive substantial exam discounts as a member benefit. Be sure to keep your HPNA membership current to receive this as well as many other benefits.

Certification Is Transformational!


HPCC is inviting all certified nurses and staff to talk about how certification has transformed their lives through a video sharing app called Certified Nurses. HPCC is once again joining with the National Certification Corporation (NCC) and other specialty nursing organizations who worked on the award winning Certified Nurses are Everywhere PSA campaign, to launch this app.


Those who download the free Certified Nurses app through either iTunes or Google Play will be able to upload a video story about their certification experience. Some of those video stories may also end up on a future public service announcement.

Tenth Annual Clinical Practice Forum

The early registration deadline for this year's HPNA Clinical Practice Forum is Wednesday, August 31, 2016. Topics this year include:

HPNA is excited to launch a brand new interactive job board with a focus on hospice and palliative care, the HPNA Career Center.  This new online resource is an easy-to-use and highly targeted resource available for career growth.

Opportunities Available Through HPNF
  
Now is the time to take advantage of several upcoming grants and scholarships that can help cover some of the costs toward your professional development. This includes conference fees, certification and recertification, and certification review courses.  Below is a list of what's available and their deadlines.


Certification Scholarships - These reimburse your certification or recertification costs, and are available for all seven HPCC certifications. The deadline for applications is the first of each month, specifically either September 1 or October 1.  


Judy Lentz Scholarship - The Judy Lentz Scholarship for the Advancement of Palliative Care in Oncology Nursing provides a registered nurse with a one year membership to HPNA, plus conference registration and a $1,500 stipend check for the next AAHPM/HPNA Annual Assembly, being held next February in Phoenix, Arizona. The deadline for applications for this scholarship is December 1.
