5th Annual Golf Tournament
2nd Annual Strikes & Spares for Sanger

Greetings from The Sanger Foundation. Our first news letter this year features a new program with an easier to read format that we hope you enjoy.  This year starts our 5th year of helping our friends and neighbors in need.  As always we thank all of our generous supporters, without you nothing would be possible.  Back in 2008 our vision was to have a golf tournament to help our stricken friend and others in our community and our goal was $20,000.  We are now planning our 5th annual event at Pinehurst Country Club on September 29th 2012 and to date we have raised over $275,000 for our friends and neighbors in need.  Our mission remains: "To help offset the extraordinary medical expenses required to care for individuals in dire financial need."

Meet Sadie

Sadie was diagnosed with epilepsy at three months old. Although there was concern, the doctors thought that her seizures could be controlled with medication. At four and a half months old she was diagnosed with infantile spasms. There were major concerns because these types of seizures impair physical and mental development. Virtually all relevant medications on the market were tried to no avail. When Sadie was nearly a year old surgeons decided that her only hope was to have the left side of her brain removed. So they performed a risky ten hour hemispherectomy on Sadie in February 2010. To everyone's dismay the seizures continued, greatly limiting her development in all areasShe has since been diagnosed with CDKL5 genetic disorder, which is characterized by severe developmental delays and seizures resistant to treatment. Sadie has been in and out of Children's Hospital many times in her short life time and has had therapy of some sort at least four times a week.

The Sanger Foundation has assisted Sadie and her family for the last two years with durable goods like a bath chair and a leaner. In addition the foundation has helped with an additional therapy camp and continues to help with medicine copays for the many medications Sadie requires.

Meet D.J.

Hi, my name is Dino but I go by D.J. I just celebrated my 5th birthday on July 19th. On August 30th 2010 I was diagnosed with Rasmussen's Syndrome. It is a rare autoimmune disorder affecting the left side of my brain. I am starting the preparation process for surgery. The only cure is a hemisphererectomy (the removal of the left side of my brain). I have a long road ahead of me and invite you to follow me on my journey to recovery.

Latest update from D.J.'s mother: D.J. is already 6 and in Kindergarten and loves school. He has made so much progress from when he first started the school year. His is still doing Speech, occupational, and physical therapy and getting stronger all the time. He has accomplished so much in a year and a half since his brain surgery both physically and academically. He has come a long way but there is still a very long road ahead of him. With his wonderful attitude and great personality makes it all so much easier to never give up.

The Sanger Foundation was able to pay off past due doctor and hospital bills for D.J.'s family, providing financial relief for the  family so they could concentrate on getting D.J. well.
