Do you know anyone with:
- Love handles
- Big belly
- Man boobs
- "Food Babies" (women who just "look" pregnant)
Dr. William Davis, author of #1 New York Times Bestseller Wheat Belly: Lose the Wheat, Lose the Weight, and Find Your Path Back to Health, claims that "foods made with or containing wheat make you fat."
Dr. Davis continues on to say "That overly enthusiastic wheat consumption is the main cause of the obesity and diabetes crisis in the United States."
These are pretty powerful statements. However, Davis backed them up with studies, science, history and just plain common sense in Wheat Belly.
"My cholesterol has dropped big time. My indigestion, gone away. And so have my allergies." TV talk show host and political pundit, Bill O'Reilly, has been talking about his wheat/gluten-free experience for some weeks after touting Davis's book. Yes, it is not just weight that is lost, but other symptoms of seemingly mysterious ailments. Davis has tied some various types of skin disorders, autoimmune diseases, asthma, arthritis, heart disease, aging, hair loss, depression and mental illness to wheat's effect on our bodies.
Whole wheat bread seems so healthy, though as we picture wheat stalks bristling in the wind over acres of beautiful farmland. Well, it actually spikes your blood sugar levels drastically. Davis says that "two slices of whole wheat bread increase blood sugar to a higher level than a candy bar or even a can of soda." Yikes.
Let's take a look back. You may be thinking that wheat has been around since the beginning of time. This is true. However, today's wheat does not even resemble wheat of just 50 years ago. It has been genetically modified for high yield production which makes wheat cheap and plentiful. However, did this hybridization make wheat less suitable for human consumption? That certainly seems to be the million dollar question.
I encourage my clients to experiment for themselves. You can, too. Simply eliminate wheat from your diet for 2 weeks (if you want to eliminate evasive symptoms). Eliminate wheat for a month to see if it will help you lose weight. For some, the weight "magically" falls off.
Indeed, you can do this simply as there are so many gluten-free options out there, you will not feel deprived at all. During those 2 weeks or month, listen to your body. Do you feel any differently? After 2 weeks or month, re-introduce wheat. Listen to your body then as well. Notice symptoms such as congestion, gas, bloat, headache, brain fog, or weight gain. Symptoms tend to be exaggerated after eliminating the culprit for a few weeks. The trick is to really pay attention for the week after wheat is re-introduced. Then you can make your own determination.
I've witnessed so many incredible transformations of people getting their lives back, whether personally or with family and clients. Give it up and gain so much more. Take the wheat-free challenge and get rid of your Wheat Belly.
