Product You May Consume Every Day Works Great at Cleaning Toilets
It's like a miracle cleaner. I use it to clean the bugs off my windshield that won't budge with my windshield wipers. It also works quite well to remove rust or scum build up around the toilet. It's a pretty common product and chances are you have it in your pantry right now. The crazy thing is that you are far more likely to throw it down your throat than to clean your toilet...
Believe it or not, folks, I'm talking about SODA. The reason it cleans so well is phosphoric acid, the acidifying agent that helps slow the growth of mold and bacteria in the sugary solution. The phosphoric acid is what actually gives soda that tangy, sharp flavor. However, it is more acidic and bitter than lemons or vinegar. That is one of the reason 8-11 teaspoons of sugar is added to each 12 oz can of soda to help cover up the acid taste. The benefits of ingesting phosphoric acid doesn't end there. Not surprisingly with its corrosive qualities, the body tries to compensate to balance the acidity by pulling out calcium where it can-bones. That is the reason soda has been linked to lower bone density in some epidemiological studies, including a discussion in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
Of course there are a few more reasons why you may want to reconsider before you have the "Gotta Have It." A few studies just came out confirming what we pretty much know about the consumption of soda. The 2012 May issue of the American Journal of Nutrition said that it found an increased risk of stroke in people who consumed more than one soda per day. These findings are not surprising in light of the growing body of evidence linking intake of sugar sweetened beverages -- of which soda makes up the largest percentage -- and diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity and high cholesterol. In fact, the latest new European Study, researchers concluded that drinking just one 12-ounce can of sugar-sweetened soda a day raises the risk of diabetes by 22% compared with drinking just one a month. It's the High Fructose Corn Syrup that really does much damage by it rapidly converting to fat by the liver leading to excess fats and lipoproteins that contribute to obesity, insulin resistance, Type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, kidney stones and gout.
If that's not enough to convince you, even the caramel coloring in soda is toxic. The Center for Science in the Public Interest filed a petition to the FDA in February, 2011 to ban caramel coloring as they reported that it had 2 cancer causing chemicals in it.
Whatever you do, don't jump into the diet versions. With artificial sweeteners such as NutraSweet and Splenda, these are proven neurotoxins that can present even more issues with diseases than the "Real Thing." I know this from personal experience the terrible side effects these can present. Believe me, sticking to water is simply your best option and your body will crave it the more you have it.
