The impact of a Bridge Session starts with kids listening. Maybe it's an instrument they know - violin or guitar. Maybe it's something they've never even heard of, like a Brazilian berimbau. Always they're listening to first-class musicians playing great music. Here are a few highlights of the artists that our 4,500 students - most from Philadelphia schools attending for free - have listened to this year:
- Philadelphia Orchestra members Udi Bar-David, Joseph Conyers, Daniel Han, Yumi Kendall, Don Liuzzi, Harold Robinson and Angela Zator Nelson.
- Singer/songwriter and WXPN indie rock favorite Andrew Lipke.
- Virtuoso violinist Kristin Lee (who solos at Carnegie Hall and jams with The Roots).
- Pulitzer Prize-nominated composer Julia Wolfe.
- 2013 Women of the World Poetry Slam champion Denice Frohman.
- Percussionists Alex Shaw, Josh Robinson and Franois Zayas of Al Brasil.
Students listen up close, the artists on floor-level with them rather than on the stage. They listen to Kristin play world premieres and to Yumi play Bach and Michael Jackson. They listen to classmates make poems with Denice. It's a noisy world. Let's invite more kids to listen to something that makes an impact.Donate today to help make that happen. P.S. Our goal is $25,000. That's 2,500 kids connecting to great music. Help us do it! Spread the word to your friends and colleagues by forwarding this email or sharing our Facebook or Twitter posts.
