 What is a Health Center?
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) funds over 3,000 grantees to provide services and support for millions of Americans across the country. Many of the grantees are health center programs which act as safety nets for underserved populations. Health center programs provide essential services to patients and are strategically located to assist those with greatest need. HRSA has established 19 program requirements for health centers to follow in order to be successful and to provide the highest quality of care to their target populations. The requirements provide infrastructure and direction for grantees, and focus on needs of the target population, services provided to the target population, management and finance of the health center program as well as governance for the health center. Health center programs are  required to report progress through quality assurance indicators. The Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC) directly works with health center programs that assist underserved communities. Quality indicators are measured through the use of the Uniform Data System created by BPHC, which standardizes information that health centers collect. Click here to access the full newsletter to learn more.  |
