Elder Care Series at Calvert Library: Lyn Striegel, BBG Member, attorney at an estate planning group and Chesapeake Current financial columnist, along with Lee Ann Stedman, owner of Circle of Care, will be presenting Alzheimer's and Dementias: Planning in the Early Stages.  Attendees will learn the difference between normal signs of aging and signs of something more troubling. You will be given tips on how to talk to your parents about their wishes early enough that their judgment hasn't been altered. You will also learn about power of attorney, living wills, co-signing on accounts and managing passwords and medical records.  There will be time for questions and answers.  

The second workshop planned for September 30, is Alzheimer's and Dementias: Care Over Time which will address issues of keeping the mind and body active, communication and more.    Other topics will include Planning for Long Term Care, Warning Signs that Help is Needed, Dealing with Depression, Diet and Nutrition for Seniors and Fall Prevention.  Some of the presenters will include estate planning attorney Rose Crunkleton, Home Health Products Express owner Mimi Quade, social worker and Angels of Care owners Mattie & Tyler Stott and Chef/owner of No Thyme to Cook, Gwyn Novak. Help Adult Day Care of Calvert County celebrate National Adult Day Services Week 2014, September 14 - 20!  The national theme for the week is "The Power of Adult Day Services: The Future of Care". 

 On September 19, the Calvert County Commissioners will issue a proclamation resolving that the citizens of Calvert County be encouraged to honor and celebrate this special week.

In honor of this special week, Adult Day Care of Calvert County, a local nonprofit adult medical day care center, invites anyone to share a memory with us for our Memory Share Project.  [It's free.] 

 Since over half of the participants of Adult Day Care of Calvert County have some level of dementia, we will be introducing the project this week.  We will begin collecting memories from, for, or about anyone with a memory impairment. 

The memory does not have to be about someone from Adult Day Care of Calvert County's program.  Memories can be from someone with a memory impairment. 

Memories can be in honor of someone with a memory impairment.  Memories can be about someone with a memory impairment.  The memory does not have to be about the impairment.  It can highlight some part of their life; it can describe a simple occurrence; it can be a story, picture, or just a name; it can be something they remembered; it can be something that makes them smile; it can be something that made you smile... Memories will be posted here in our center, located on the lower level of the health department building.  The memories may also be shared on our website.

The Halloween Family Fun Night at the Chesapeake Beach Water Park is coming and we want to participate and have a lot of fun, but we need your help and your happy face to helps us make this event a total smash.

Looking for:

Performers of all ages (no lines to memorize)
People to dress up in characters for the cave & about the park ( we have super heroes and princesses costumes)
People to help decorate the park

We will send a video with the steps for the flash mob and then we will have 2 rehearsals with a professional dancer before October 19, both on Sunday at the North Beach Boys & Girls Club, located at 9024 Dayton Ave. WE NEED LOTS OF PEOPLE!!

Everyone can do something. We have a lot of great ideas! Bring yours too!
This is a FREE event for all and hundreds of people come to this event.

The Halloween Family Fun Night at the Chesapeake Beach Water Park is scheduled for October 19, 2014 at 6:30 PM-8:30. We will be decorating that weekend & performers will have 2 FUN rehearsals in between before the actual event. It's a small commitment for some great memories for local families!
