End Hunger WORKS is an exciting work force development initiative from End Hunger In Calvert County, created with the vision of bringing quality and sustainable employment opportunities to the residents of Calvert County.

 

End Hunger WORKS is a collaboration of businesses and organizations working together to provide career opportunities that help move individuals from dependency to self-sufficiency. 

The Culinary Training Program is a FREE 9-week program available to unemployed or under-employed Calvert County residents who are interested in a career in the food service industry. This industry is projected to grow at least 7% every year through 2018 (The Bureau of Labor Statistics).

Graduates of the Culinary Training Program receive National Restaurant Certification as well as FREE career placement assistance and their very own set of knives.

COST:
Classes are free to qualified applicants.

Calvert Community Foundation (CCF) Offers Grants

The Calvert Community Foundation offers grants to local community organizations seeking to improve the lives of citizens in Calvert County.  Grant awards up to $2,000 will awarded to organizations that focus on one or more of the CCF's strategic areas of interest: Cultural, Environmental, Health, Human Services, Public Safety, Recreation, and Education.

 

Organizations are encouraged to apply by obtaining a grant application form from the CCF Facebook page "Calvert Community Foundation" or by visiting our foundation host webpage www.creatinglegacies.org at the Foundation for Community Partnerships. Click on "Our Funds" to find the Calvert Community Foundation web link.

PRAD Grants Available
  

 

P.R.A.D. INC. ACCEPTS APPLICATIONS FOR 2014 GRANT AWARDS

 

Patuxent River Appreciation Days, Inc. is pleased to announce the opening of the 2014 grant round. Non-profit organizations that provide educational programs about the Patuxent River or conduct research activities in and around the Patuxent River or Patuxent River Basin are eligible to apply. 

 

The grant recipients for 2013 were Sotterly Plantation and Battle Creek Nature Center.

Awards are made on a competitive basis by the P.R.A.D., Inc. Board of up to $1,000 per organization in any one calendar year. The P.R.A.D., Inc. Board includes members of the Calvert Marine Museum, the Pa-Po-Peake Shrine Club, The Calvert Artists Guild, The American Legion Arick L. Lore Post, and the Calvert County Waterman's Association.

 

To request an application for a P.R.A.D. Inc. grant, please call Melissa McCormick at 410-326-2042, ext. 41 or email mccormmj@co.cal.md.us You must provide the name of the non-profit organization, a contact person's name, a complete mailing address and a daytime telephone number or email address. Veterans Patio Memorial Brick Campaign
  
  

 

military_fireworks.jpgThe Calvert County Department of General Services is coordinating the annual Veterans Patio Memorial Brick Campaign taking place now through April 1. For a limited time, the public may purchase memorial bricks to be placed at the Veterans Patio, located at the WWII "On Watch" Memorial Statue in Solomons.

 

The commemorative bricks are available to memorialize those who served the country during World War II. The cost of each memorial brick is $100 and all contributions are tax deductible. Bricks will be installed in the fall of 2014 and purchasers will be notified when they are available for viewing.

The World War II "On Watch" memorial statue is an 8-foot-tall bronze statue by Maryland artist Antonio Tobias Mendez commemorating the people and work done at the Solomons Amphibious Training Base during World War II. This, the nation's first amphibious training facility, was active from 1942 to 1945 and its effect on the area continues to be felt today. The statue was unveiled in August 2007.

State Legislative Wrap-Up Breakfast
  

 

A State Legislative Wrap-Up Breakfast will be held on Thursday, April 17th, 2014 at Hilton Garden Inn Solomons beginning at 8:30 AM. This Breakfast is an opportunity for anyone who lives, works, or owns a business in Calvert County to ask follow-up questions from our state Senators and Delegates pertaining to bills and the budget which were addressed during the 434th Legislative Session. 

 

Senator Thomas V. "Mike" Miller, Jr., Senator Roy Dyson, Delegate Mark N. Fisher, Delegate Anthony "Tony" J. O'Donnell, Delegate James. E. Proctor, Jr., and Delegate Joseph F. Vallario, Jr., are invited guest speakers.

 

The cost for breakfast and to attend is $35 and reservations are required by April 14th 2014. No walk-ins can be accommodated on the day of the event. Credit cards are accepted.
