Shop Maryland Energy - tax-free weekend on select Energy Star appliances
Comptroller Peter Franchot today reminded Marylanders to take advantage of Shop Maryland Energy, a tax-free weekend on select ENERGY STAR appliances beginning at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, February 15, and ending at 11:59 p.m. Monday, February 17. The annual tax-free weekend, now in its fifth year, allows consumers to make qualifying purchases without paying the state's six percent sales tax.
During the Shop Maryland Energy event, air conditioners, washers and dryers, furnaces, heat pumps, standard-size refrigerators, compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL), dehumidifiers and programmable thermostats that have been designated as meeting or exceeding the applicable ENERGY STAR efficiency requirements developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy will be tax-free.

Zip MEETS Date - FRIDAY!
On Friday, February 7, 2014, the Town of North Beach will experience an event that occurs only once a century. It's called Zip Meets Date. The date of 2-07-14 will match the town's zip code of 20714. This rare occurrence will be recognized at a small event at the North Beach Post Office at 11:00 a.m. on February 7, 2014. The public is invited and light refreshments will be provided.
A special pictorial cancellation has been designed by North Beach resident, Steve Kortie. On February 7, you may request that your outgoing mail be cancelled with this special postmark. You may also request this postmark on an unaddressed envelope with appropriate first class postage to keep as a souvenir.
Come out and have something stamped with this special stamp. If you don't, you'll have to wait 100 more years!
