No August BBG Meeting

Since school is starting, and everyone's so busy in August, we're changing our BBG meeting schedule. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, Sept 18, at 8a at Rod 'N' Reel in Chesapeake Beach. Mark your calendars: a reminder that BBG meetings are always held the 3rd Wednesday of the month unless otherwise specified (usually August and Christmas Party). Watch the e-news, the BBG web site (http://www.baybusinessgroup.org) and the BBG Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bay-Business-Group/336818553527) for more reminders and updates.

Free Memory Screenings

Adult Day Care of Calvert County to Hold Free Memory Screenings Event Stresses Importance of Proper Detection

Adult Day Care of Calvert County will be providing free, confidential memory screenings on September 16, 2013 from 12:00 to 4:00 pm as part of Community Memory Screenings, an initiative of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America (AFA) designed to promote proper detection of memory problems and provide education about successful aging.

Memory screenings average five to ten minutes and consist of questions and tasks to assess memory. They do not diagnose any illness, but can indicate whether someone should follow up with a full medical exam.   Screenings, administered by a qualified healthcare professional, will take place at Adult Day Care of Calvert County, located on the lower level of the Health Department Building in Prince Frederick.  Address: 975 Solomons Island Road; Phone: 410-535-0133; Website: www.adcofcalvertcounty.org

Be watchful when making business deposits

Prince George's County has seen a recent uptick in the night time assault and robberies of individuals taking their deposits to the bank.  In each of the incidents, when the business owner is either walking to their bank or just prior to the bank bag deposit, they are approached by a male who distracts then.  A second male then runs up and wrestles the bag from the store owner.

Unfortunately, these incidents spread regionally when others learn of the successful tactic, so we need to be watchful here in Calvert County too.

Please practice good security procedures by:

  • Never going to the bank at the same time
  • Take different routes
  • Go to the bank in pairs
  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • If possible visit the bank during business hours
