NO BBG MEETING IN AUGUST
No August BBG Meeting
Since school is starting, and everyone's so busy in August, we're changing our BBG meeting schedule. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, Sept 18, at 8a at Rod 'N' Reel in Chesapeake Beach. Mark your calendars: a reminder that BBG meetings are always held the 3rd Wednesday of the month unless otherwise specified (usually August and Christmas Party). Watch the e-news, the BBG web site (http://www.baybusinessgroup.org) and the BBG Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bay-Business-Group/336818553527) for more reminders and updates.

Are you scary...??

The annual Chesapeake Beach Haunted Waterpark is fast approaching. The spooktacular Halloween Family Fun Night will be held on Sunday, October 20 at 6:30 PM. The Waterpark will be transformed into two areas. One for entertaining the little tots and then a spooky side for the older kids. If Halloween is your favorite day of the year and you enjoy decorating and "spooking out" your digs, you are just the volunteer I am looking for. We will take your ideas and transform them into reality. We already own several "set pieces" and we have a small budget for additional purchases. A construction and tear down crew will also be needed. Come on out and have a great time while doing something for the community. This is also an excellent opportunity for teenagers who need to complete community service hours for school or church. If Halloween is your thing and you can help out send me an email and we will get started on design right away.

Skateboarding Competition

SoMD CAN and Aggro Joe's Skate Shop are once again holding a skateboarding competition and fun day at Dunkirk Park on September 22, 2013. Last year we had beautiful weather, great music, a healthy competition and a park full of happy skateboarders. There will be three different skateboarding competitions, raffle, and prizes. This is going to be a fun event for the families in our county as well as a fundraising event for SoMD CAN.
We are looking for members of the business community and individuals to sponsor this event again this year. I have attached the event flier and the sponsorship packages. Any level of sponsorship will help us continue with our mission to educate, motivate and engage the 8th graders and juniors and seniors in our school system to pursue higher education.
We educate families on how to pay for college, where to find resources, and help them understand what all the terminology means and what they are responsible for. We focus on students who are first generation college goers, minorities, and/or those who are in a lower income bracket. We also have the opportunity for students to self-select into our program.
Thank you so much for your support and help. I truly appreciate it.

Executive Director/Pre-College Advisor
