Annual Spring Clean Up of Fishing Creek and the Railway Trail Spring Clean Up of Fishing Creek and the Railway Trail scheduled for March 16, 2013 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Spring and Easter are just around the corner. That means it's "spring cleaning" time! Volunteers are needed for the Fishing Creek/Kellam's Field Clean-Up this Saturday, March 16 at 10 AM. We will meet just past the Tot Lot at the Railway Trail head. Gloves and trash bags will be furnished. We will finish at approximately 1 PM with pizza and drinks for lunch. Rain date is Sunday, March 17, same time. Bring the kids and come on out. This is a wonderful way for you to spend "family time" while helping to keep our community clean and beautiful. We hope to see you there!

Survey to Assess Views on Higher Education Needs for regional businesses
Southern Maryland Higher Education Council, in concert with the Patuxent Partnership, has created a five-minute survey for regional businesses that will assess views on higher education needs.
The Southern Maryland Higher Education Council was established by the Maryland Legislature and signed into law by Governor O'Malley in 2011. The Council is charged with developing a strategy to improve access to higher education for Southern Maryland residents, examining existing needs and determining whether those needs are being met. The survey results will help them recommend ways to formulate long- and short-term plans to improve higher education access and training to assist businesses and employees.

Grants 101: Finding & Applying for Funding for Non-Profits
Caroline Herbert of the Foundation Center, Washington, D.C. will present a two-hour workshop on finding funding and writing a grant proposal for a non-profit organization. This workshop provides an introduction to the steps involved in finding funders and preparing grant proposals. Learn tips for effective funding research and the key components of a proposal to a foundation.
We will cover: how the proposal fits into the overall grantseeking process, how to develop targeted lists of foundations that will match your organization's funding needs, what to include in a standard proposal to a foundation, tips for making each section of your proposal stronger, and what funders expect to see in your proposal and attachments.
