ATTENTION

YOUTH GROUPS AND PASTORS,

OBSMONGE IS COMING !!!

You all may already be familiar with Family Promise of Knoxville, a local ministry here in Knoxville that helps homeless families with children. In fact, some of your churches may already be host or support churches, and for that we thank you! The mission of Family Promise of Knoxville is to help homeless and low income families achieve sustainable independence, and our vision is "a community in which every family has a home, a livelihood and a chance to build a better future together." For more mission information, you can also see Matthew 25:35......

We are planning a very important fundraising event, coming up in a couple of months. We are hosting a brand-new event for the Knoxville area, a Monster Obstacle Course! We have named this event Obsmonge, and it will be held on the grounds of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 711 Northshore Drive, on Saturday, May 9.

OBSMONGE is an obstacle course race that will have participants climbing over, going under and charging through obstacles of all shapes and sizes. We will have several heats, including Competitive (Cash Prize for top three Men/Women finishers), Individual (Open Class) and Family. We will also have a Team Challenge that will pit local businesses, clubs, groups (YOUTH GROUPS!) and organizations against each other.

We would love to have your youth (and pastors!) participate, either as individuals, or as a group. Registration is now open, you can find much more information at www.obsmonge.com, or call Family Promise at 584-2822. Please check it out and consider helping out this worthwhile cause. Tell your friends at school! Like them on Facebook!

FAMILY PROMISE OF KNOXVILLE is one of the agencies supported through your District Apportionments.

Family Promise Seeking to Double

"Family Promise" is the ministry to homeless families in our area that allows families to stay together and receive assistance in finding jobs and housing. Churches and other groups take turns hosting the families for a week. The ministry is now seeking to double the number of families they help from four to eight. If your church would be willing to become a host site, please contact Mary LeMense, Director at 584-2822.

A God-sized Goal of $100,000!

In the last newsletter, I lifted up our Annual Conference missions offering as a place to focus our efforts over the next few months. Ever since then, it has remained on my mind and in my spirit. We are talking about children and poverty throughout the bounds of Holston Conference. This really does deserve our best efforts!

So I write again to put a "God-sized" goal out there for us. I believe the people of the Knoxville District have the God-given resources and creativity to raise $100,000 for this most worthy cause! And yes, this is beyond our regular tithes and offerings to the ministries of our churches.

I invite every member of our churches to give $10 and 10 hours of service to this cause. Moreover, I invite you to consider a higher level of generous, sacrificial giving. Let me add that I am not going to ask you to do something I am not willing to do myself. Vicki and I are hereby pledging to give $1,000 to this cause.

Beyond that, I encourage the leaders of our churches to involve children, youth and adults of all ages in finding ways to create opportunities to allow other people of our communities to participate in this. You are good at raising funds for worthy causes! I cannot think of a cause better than this.

I know you to be a generous people. You have proven that time and time again. As with anything else, pray about this and ask God to show you what you are to do.

Thank you for the many ways you give of yourself and your resources to further the kingdom and live into the mission of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Love, Grace & Peace,

Nathan Malone

happy-couple-sm.jpg MARRIAGE MINISTRIES

This year Holston Conference begins the second decade of offering weekend marriage enrichment retreats for couple in professional ministry in our churches. These retreats are designed to provide quality time for married couples during a weekend away from work and family responsibilities. All the cost for housing, meals, and leadership are covered by the Holston Conference.

Two changes have taken place in this ministry.

First, because the Retreat Center at Buffalo Mountain is no longer available, the retreats will be held at the Carson Springs Baptist Conference Center near Newport, Tennessee. We are fortunate to have the use of this facility that is in a beautiful setting with comfortable accommodations at a convenient location.

Second, because Partners In Crisis is providing additional funding, we are able for the first time to schedule two retreats: April 10-12 and May 15-17, 2015. Couples may select the date that is most convenient for them.

Someone who participated in a previous retreat wrote: "This is such a wonderful weekend! I feel rested and renewed and ready for what comes next."

Information about the retreat and a registration form are included in a brochure that is available from Pete and Ginny Rowlett (865-966-9776 or [email protected]) or from the district office.

Also, a Leadership Training Workshop will be held at Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Knoxville on June 26-30, 2015. Open to both laity and clergy, this event prepares couples to lead marriage education and enrichment programs that empower couples to build stronger marriages. Contact the Rowletts for more information.

MainStay Suites, Pigeon Forge, TN

A retreat for older adults (50+) who desire to explore and enhance their relationship with Christ.

Each of us has a story filled with a series of life experiences, some good and some difficult.  But it is our story, and those stories have contributed to who we are today.  How we connect our stories with God's story will be the legacy we leave.

What kind of story are you writing? Living a story is unavoidable. And in the end, there's nothing greater than being a part of God's big, big story.  Join us for Jubilation 2015 as we celebrate that story together.
