Grossmont College was Tamara McMillan's destiny. It just took her a little while to get here.
A standout discus thrower, she was an Academic All American athlete at San Diego State University.
A few years after graduating from SDSU, McMillan enrolled at Grossmont College in the fall of 2013 to pursue her longtime dream of becoming a nurse.
"Being a nurse is something I really want to do," McMillan said. "It is my calling."

Cuyamaca College Commencement June 4
Cuyamaca College will be holding its commencement on Wednesday, June 4 at 5:30 p.m. in the Student Center Quad. Almost 600 students will be receiving degrees and certificates, a record number for the college.
The keynote speaker will be Mae Brown, assistant vice chan  cellor of Admissions and Enrollment Services at the University of California, San Diego.
The valedictorian and student speaker will be Nancy Yousif, a Chaldean refugee with a 4.0 grade point average just five years after coming to the United States and speaking no English. Read more about Nancy.

Grossmont College
Commencement June 5
 Grossmont College's commencement will be held on Thursday, June 5 at 5:30 p.m. in the college's Main Quad. A record 1,400 graduates will be receiving degrees and certificates. The alumni speaker will be former San Diego County Chief Administrative Officer Walt Eckard, who served as chief executive for nearly 14 years until he retired in 2012. The student speaker will be Zechariah Bolz, who will be starting this fall at the University of California, Berkeley. Bolz, who has a 3.92 grade point average, will be receiving an associate degree in German. |

College for Kids offers summer fun
for youngsters 8-14 years old
Registration is now open for College for Kids, the popular summer enrichment program for elementary and middle-schoolers offered through the Grossmont-Cuyamaca  Community College District's Continuing Education program.
Registration is currently open for the low-cost, mostly weeklong classes offered from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. Featuring a wide variety of workshops in art, science, music, media and more, this summer's College for Kids includes a football camp for ages 8-11 and 12-14, along with new day camps for BMX, scooter and skateboard riders.
