The Pause program, an initiative of the Family and Children First Council, has created the Family Connections E-Newsletter as part of our commitment to resource families in Butler County.  While this newsletter includes Pause specific information, every family will find great opportunities to connect with each other and with other families in the community! All events are FREE unless noted otherwise!

  Upcoming Pause Events 
Pause is committed to assisting families of children with physical, mental, developmental, medical, behavioral or learning challenges, access to a broad range of support options by maximizing the use of community resources and family support networks. On the current menu of options, Pause provides: respite, free family fun events, caregiver networking/resourcing and community service events to help families with tangible needs.

June Pause Family Fun Event!

During our summer months Pause provides FREE Family Fun Events as a way for families to have fun together! The Parent's Night Out 2017-18 season will launch back up in September. Stay tuned for more information!

Fridays & Saturdays, Time Varies
Skate your way to family fun at the Goggin Ice Center! Public ice skating is available all year at various times, and makes for a fun family activity.
*Please call Goggin Ice Center to ensure open skating sessions at 513-529-9800

June 9th, Second Friday of Every Month, 6-9pm
Open Artist Studios on the 3rd floor and the Art Shop on the 1st floor give guests the opportunity to view creative art spaces, as well as purchase one-of-a-kind artwork directly from the artists. New and exciting concerts by local musicians and exhibitions opening with an artists' reception.

June 27th, Fourth Tuesday of Every Month, 7pm
Music Cafe features a wide variety of musical performances that are free and open to the public! Enjoy refreshments while listening to melodies from all genres, including everything from folk music and worldly sounds to bluegrass and hard rock. Musicians come from all over southwestern Ohio perform.

Thursdays at 7pm
Groove on the Green all summer long! Find all genres from Rock 'n Roll to German to Boogie Woogie at this weekly concert series at Village Green in Fairfield!

June 10th, Second Saturday of Each Month
This monthly urban, curated market features a wide variety of local artisans who specialize in handcrafted goods and unique, high-quality services. Food trucks are on site for when hunger strikes!

Every Saturday through October 9am-1pm
Enjoy the freshest food in town year round at West Chester's Farmers Market.  Local growers and makers of fine foods and arts are on hand at this one-of-a-kind market that also features fun activities for the family and entertainment.

June 7th & June 24th
Family friendly and free! Music starts at 5:30. Bring your lawn chairs, grab a bite to eat, and enjoy the music!

Every Wednesday, 7-9pm
Celebrate the middle of the week with an evening concert at the beautiful VOA MetroPark lake. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and friends, every Wednesday throughout the summer (May 31 - August 23) for a variety of bands. Tasty dinner and drinks will be available for purchase on the Ronald Reagan Lodge patio.

June 1 - All-Star Summer
Bring the whole family out for a night of crafts, music, good food, and shopping! The All-Star Summer edition of Alive After 5 will be about sports of all sorts, so let your inner fan out and join the fun on June 1! They'll have a disc golf scavenger hunt, a "FANdemonium" costume contest, Yoga in the Park, and lots more!

Movies Under Moonlight

Join Liberty Center in The Park this summer on Wednesdays evenings for Movies by Moonlight featuring family friendly films every week!  June 7 - The Secret Life Of Pets, June 14 - Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, June 21 - Stuart Little, June 28 - Happy Feet

Creeking in the Parks
Thursdays in June
Creeking is a fun summer activity! Educators from MetroParks and Butler Soil & Water Conservation District will guide you in exploring several creeks. Please be sure to wear clothes that can get wet and dirty with close-toed shoes (no flip-flops).

June 10 & 11, 10am-5pm
Over 80 exhibitors from all over the Midwest will showcase arts including glass, metal, stone, leather, clay, photography, embroidery, and more! $4 for Adults - Children under 12 Free.

June 10th, 10am-5pm
The Strawberry Festival features local vendors and artists, an antique tractor show, fresh refreshments and produce, traditional live Welsh harp music and live organ music. Explore Shandon's diverse antique heritage by visiting local shops in historic houses that feature antiques, country crafts, original art, pottery and furniture.

June 10th, Monroe Community Park - Rogue One
Grab the kids, a blanket, and head over for a fun filled day with the family and a movie at dusk in the park.  And when its time for a snack you can find a variety of food trucks!

June 17th, 10am-12pm
Free park admission and a Fishing Derby for Father's Day Weekend. Catch and release and win prizes. Bring your own gear and picnic lunch, and treat dad to a special day out!

June 10th, 10-11:30am (Second Saturdays)
This summer, Autism Society Presents Preschool Parent playtime to provide structured playtime for preschool children on the spectrum and community support for their parent. Children will be encouraged to participate in structured activities. See handout for more event details. RSVP to Carole.

Movie Time! Special Needs Fun will be going to the movies June 10th to see Despicable Me 2 at the Springdale Theater on Route 4. Upcoming event details and information will be posted on their facebook page.
 
June 3rd - Pool Party!
Capernaum is a Young Life group for Special Needs kids ages middle school to 22.  See the current schedule for a list of events - the kids have a blast! Contact Eric Northrup with questions.
 
There are many sports about to begin again this summer! If you are interested in joining us for our upcoming sports season, please visit their website and sign up to play. Hope to see you there!

Sundays at 5pm
Special Olympics Golf will begin in June on Sundays at 5 p.m. at the North Trace Golf Course in Fairfield. Beginners to advanced players are welcome; bring clubs if you have them. Athletes must be age 8 and up, and must register online.

June 9th 5pm-7pm & June 12th  9am-3pm
June classes presented by the Kelly O'Leary Center for Autism Spectrum Disorder at Cincinnati Children's Hospital have been posted. Upcoming classes: June 12, Developing a functional communication system for children with ASD/DD (cost $0), and June 9th Understanding Behaviors in individuals with ASD/DD (cost $50). PEERS Summer Clinic
June 15th-August 10th,  Thursdays, 4:30pm-6:30pm
PEERS� (Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills) is a social skills program that helps teens learn ways to make and keep friends. The clinic begins June 15 and goes until August 10, held each Thursday evening from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Loveland High School. The cost is $495. Options for Menstrual Management
June 29th, 5:30pm - 7:30pm
A presentation on June 29 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. seeks to inform parents/caregivers and providers on the variety of hormonal options available for menstrual management and contraception. The class will be held at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, Medical Office Building, 3430 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45229. To register contact Jennifer Gastright at (513) 636-2742.
