The Pause program, an initiative of the Family and Children First Council, has created the Family Connections E-Newsletter as part of our commitment to resource families in Butler County.  While this newsletter includes Pause specific information, every family will find great opportunities to connect with each other and with other families in the community! All events are FREE unless noted otherwise!

  Upcoming Pause Events 
Pause is committed to assisting families of children with physical, mental, developmental, medical, behavioral or learning challenges, access to a broad range of support options by maximizing the use of community resources and family support networks. On the current menu of options, Pause provides: respite, free family fun events, caregiver networking/resourcing and community service events to help families with tangible needs.

May Pause Parent's Night Out Event!

This FREE program is designed to provide a fun, safe environment for children so that you can get a break to recharge your battery!
Your child will be paired with a buddy whose main goal will be to spend quality time havIng fun and caring for them. We will have dinner, snacks, do craft projects, play games and more!

Skate your way to family fun at the Goggin Ice Center! Public ice skating is available all year at various times, and makes for a fun family activity.

May 1-6, (Times Vary), Big Week of Birding in Butler County
Interested in learning more about those hard to identify spring migrants? Dr. Dave Russell gives his Warbler Refresher in a fast paced interactive way. This indoor program is a great way to start your birding journey, whether you are a novice or an experienced birder.

After a long cold winter celebrate the return of warmer weather with Spring Celebration! And to help celebrate, when you Buy One Do-It-All ticket you get a Return Visit - Free! 2016 inductee to the Quilters Hall of Fame Museum, Dr. Mazloomi is a leader in educating the public about the diversity of interpretation, styles and techniques among African-American quilters. Dr. Mazloomi's own quilts have been exhibited extensively at the Smithsonian and beyond. Her organization, Women of Color Quilters Network, has been recognized by the International Labor Department in Geneva and the United Nations.

May 4, 5:00PM-9:00PM, Alive After 5: Once Upon a Time
Alive After 5 is back for 2017! This monthly shop hop highlighting downtown Hamilton's eclectic small businesses features food, activities, and live music. Each Alive After 5 has a special theme! For the month of May find Once Upon a Time. Princesses from A Characteristic Attitude will be downtown for photo-ops and there will be free children's activities, including a scavenger hunt and a craft. Attendees are encouraged to dress up as their favorite storybook characters, and prizes will be awarded for the best costumes. Find your own happily ever after in Hamilton this May!

May 6, 10:00AM-4:00PM, Hamilton Shop Hop
Shop Hop until you drop in downtown Hamilton. Visit local businesses specializing in artisan gifts, home decor, antiques and art. Grab a map, visit all of the stops, and expereince shopping the Hamilton way! 

Spring weather, beautiful flowers and elegant horses make for an unforgettable afternoon in Oxford, Ohio. Oxford will host the 6th annual Red Bricks and Roses horse drawn carriage parade on May 6th. The day begins at 8AM with the seasonal opening of the award-winning Oxford Farmers' Market Uptown.  At 10AM in the uptown Oxford Memorial Park, there will be a family festival complete with carriage rides, music from the Worley Boys, historic carriages on display and fun activities for all ages. 
At 12PM a parade of finely decorated horses and carriages will stroll through Uptown Oxford and Miami University's campus. 

The Red Bricks and Roses event ends with an open house at the Miami University Equestrian Center from 1-3PM.  The center will be open for tours and riding demonstrations in association with Cincinnati Therapeutic Riding and Horsemanship. Additionally, children can enjoy derby themed crafts and activities for free!

In celebration of Historic Preservation Month, Oxford's Historic and Architectural Preservation Commission, Smith Library of Regional History, and McGuffey House & Museum are sponsoring free tours each Saturday morning in May.

Springwood Subdivision Meet at 212 Oakhill Dr. Oxford This walk will feature mid-century modern residential architecture in the Springwood Subdivision.

 College & Collins NeighborhoodMeet at 15 S. College Ave. Oxford - Parking LotThis walk will include 19th and 20th century residences in the neighborhood of College Avenue and Collins Street.   
May 20 Bishop & Church Neighborhood Meet at 400 E. Church St. Oxford This walk will include houses on Bishop and Church Streets and the families who lived in them.  
May 27 
Shadowy HillsMeet at 100 N. Patterson Ave. Oxford - Miami Inn Hall Parking LotThis walk will feature traditional mid-20th century residential architecture. 

May 7 & 14, 1:00 PM: Wildflower Walks
Join a guide each Sunday from April 2nd through May 14th for a wildflower walk through the Silvoor Biological Sanctuary.  On your walk, you'll get to see some of the beautiful signs of spring in Oxford!  Trails may be muddy or have exposed roots; please wear proper hiking shoes. Participants should meet at Miami University's Peffer Park shelter, located off U.S. 27.

May 12, 6:00 PM- 9:00 PM: Second Friday 
Second Friday, sponsored by The Elms, is Oxford's monthly celebration of the arts, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM on the second Friday of each month (except January & July). Each month, this free event includes new and exciting concerts by local musicians, sponsored by Sally and Jack Southard; and exhibitions opening with an artists' reception. Open Artist Studios on the 3rd floor and the Art Shop on the 1st floor give guests the opportunity to view creative art spaces, as well as purchase one-of-a-kind artwork directly from the artists.

Far more than a triple threat, Badin High School graduate Joe Sackenheim is an accomplished actor, dancer, singer, creator, director, and producer. A former drama director at Hamilton High School, he now heads Hollywood based Sackenheim Entertainment. With a quick wit and an even quicker smile, he and his special guests bring comedy, music and more to the stage.

Same great awesome market, new venue! This monthly urban, curated market features a wide variety of local artisans who specialize in handcrafted goods and unique, high-quality services. Food trucks are on site for when hunger strikes! Spend some time supporting local businesses and experience Hamilton, Ohio in a unique way. Market it located at Marcum Park, 116 Dayton Street in Hamilton. 

May 19, 5:00PM-11:00PM, May 20, Noon-11:00PM: Buckeye BBQ Fest
The worlds of Blues, Brews, BBQ (and classic cars too) will converge at this popular annual summer festival. Enjoy over 30 mouthwatering BBQ and sweet treat vendors, live Blues Music and a fun Kids Zone!

Come explore the shops that make what they sell on Main Street in Hamilton. This day of demonstrations and tours will get you a behind the scenes look at Hamilton's newest and most creative businesses. See the event website for a list of participating shops and stores. 

May 20, 10:30AM-12:00PM: Let's Go Hiking
Let's Go HikingJoin other hikers each month for a speaker and a guided hike through a Farfield park! Registration required. Location this month: Marsh Park. 

May 22-May 31, (Normal Business Hours), Summer Fun at EnterTRAINment Junction
Beat the heat with summer savings at EnterTRAINment Junction! Purchase a Do-It-All ticket and get a ticket to the world's largest train exhibit, our famous A-Maze-N FunHouse PLUS another ticket to come back for another visit.

May 22, 6:00 PM- 7:30 PM: Sensory Friendly Jump @ Pump it Up!
SENSORY NIGHT is for Special Needs kids, their siblings and families! Kids with autism and those on the autism spectrum love the active movement of jumping and climbing on our safe, giant inflatables. It also helps build large muscle groups and coordination. And it's really FUN! Cost is $8 per child; Parents play for FREE Jump for 90 minutes in a supervised party arena. Space is limited, so registration is recommended. A WAIVER signed by a parent/guardian & SOCKS are required.

May 23, 7:00 PM: Music Café
Attracting regular patrons every month, Music Café is free to the public and is truly a wonderful experience offering aspiring musicians the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience. With participants from all over Southwestern Ohio, it has proven to be one of the Fitton Center's most popular series. Performances are the 4th Tuesday of each month in the Carruthers Signature Ballroom.

May 26, 9:00PM-11:00PM, Stargazing
Enjoy the fourth Friday of every month gazing at the stars. With help from the 
Cincinnati Astronomical Society and their telescopes you will be able to take an up-close look at the moon, planets and stars that fill the night sky.
