March is Self Harm Awareness Month

Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) refers to when people intentionally harm themselves but do not have any intent to kill themselves. There are a number of ways that people injure themselves. Of all of the methods, cutting is the most common form of NSSI; however, most people who self-injure engage in multiple methods.Because people who self-injure typically do so in private and do not tell others, it is important to be able to recognize and talk to people who engage in NSSI in order to get them help.
To increase awareness of self-harm (non-suicidal self-injury), Project AWARE Ohio has developed an information brief.

Also see the additional attachment from Project AWARE, that outlines what you need to know about non-suicidal self-injury and the steps you can take to support someone who is engaging in self-harm.
Below are some resources to support individuals who engage in self-injury:

PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT
 EDGE Teen Center
Edge Teen Center is an after-school center that serves the needs of local teens. It is a safe place where teens in the community can come to hang out. All teens are valued and accepted. Over 100 students attend EDGE each day after school. EDGE is located in Liberty Township, within walking distance to Lakota East High School and Lakota East Freshman Campus. Lakota East Freshman Campus provides a bus to take students to EDGE each day. EDGE's mission is to "empower teens to impact the world". At the center, teens have the opportunity to connect, learn, service, and socialize. In 2016 alone, EDGE teens gave over 3500 hours of service to the community. The growing nonprofit works to fulfill their vision, that "teens will be confident in who they are, equipped to be successful in high school and beyond and possess the resiliency needed to navigate life." For more information, see their website.
