The Pause program, an initiative of the Family and Children First Council, has created the Family Connections E-Newsletter as part of our commitment to resource families in Butler County.  While this newsletter includes Pause specific information, every family will find great opportunities to connect with each other and with other families in the community! All events are FREE unless noted otherwise!

  Upcoming Pause Events 
Pause is committed to assisting families of children with physical, mental, developmental, medical, behavioral or learning challenges, access to a broad range of support options by maximizing the use of community resources and family support networks. On the current menu of options, Pause provides: respite, free family fun events, caregiver networking/resourcing and community service events to help families with tangible needs.

March Pause Parent's Night Out Event!

This FREE program is designed to provide a fun, safe environment for children so that you can get a break to recharge your battery!
Your child will be paired with a buddy whose main goal will be to spend quality time havIng fun and caring for them. We will have dinner, snacks, do craft projects, play games and more!

March (every Friday), 6:30 pm: Fitton Family Friday
Fitton Family Fridays are geared toward children and families of all ages. Enjoy everything from plays by local children's theater groups to interactive concerts and national comedy acts. A free reception of kid-friendly drinks and appetizers is served prior to each show.

March Fridays.-Sundays., (Time Varies): Ice Skating at Goggin Ice Center
Skate your way to family fun at the Goggin Ice Center! Public ice skating is available all year at various times, and makes for a fun family activity.

March 1- March 21, "Wherefore Art.." Exhibition
Come as you are and leave inspired! It's FREE to stop by the Fitton Center galleries anytime, where you can explore constantly evolving visual art. Bring your family to make crafts at the Creation Station or bring your lunch and camp out on a gallery couch. Bring a group for a guided tour or come solo for some quiet time. Come often so you don't miss any of the exciting artists featured this year!

The Celebrating Self series has become one of Butler County's most interesting and dynamic luncheon events. Celebrating Self will play host to a diverse array of engaging speakers who will enlighten, educate and enthrall audiences on topics at a national level and also close to home. Accompanied by a delicious lunch and live music, be sure to mark your calendar and bring a friend!

Carruthers Signature Ballroom

Join the Miami Valley Woodcarvers for their 36th Annual Show & Sale. Talented Woodcarvers from around the region will showcase carving demonstrations. Enter to win hourly door prizes, shop from wood masterpieces and enjoy food and fun for the entire family.

Show takes place:

Sunday 12:30 pm- 5:00 pm

March 4-5 & March 11-12, 8:00 am- 4:30 pm: Maple Syrup Festival
Celebrate fifty years of Ohio maple syrup at this year's 50th annual Maple Syrup Festival at Hueston Woods State Park. The festival will take place on two separate weekends in 2017; March 4th - 5th, as well as March 11th - 12th. Begin your day with a delicious all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast in the Trailblazer Dining Room inside Hueston Woods Lodge from 8:00A.M. until 1:00P.M. Cost is $6 for adults and $5 for kids 10 and under. Of course, the breakfast will feature delicious local maple syrup! From noon until 4:00P.M., enjoy a maple syrup tour around the park. Begin with a hayride at the Pioneer Farm on Brown Road, followed by a hike through the "Big Woods." During your tour, learn about the art of maple syrup production and history of the area. From 10A.M. until 4:30P.M., visit the Nature Center to tour the exhibits featuring reptiles, birds of prey and a cougar. Food, beverages and maple syrup will be on sale throughout the festival!

Ronny Cox is a superbly talented actor, singer-songwriter and musician who has been consistently active in Hollywood for over 40 years portraying a diverse range of characters. However, when he's not in front of the cameras, Cox can be found touring and demonstrating his musical talents at various music festivals and theatre shows and, to-date, he has released five CDs. Ronny's music is eclectic; a woven tapestry of songs and stories with an over-all arc that eventually comes together and tells something about "the human condition." Scores of fans will attest that attending one of his performances is one of the greatest evenings to experience. With the gift of a consummate storyteller, he shares funny, sad and tender moments.

March 8, 5:00 pm- 7:00 pmMarch Winter Farmer's Market
Still hoping to find your favorite coffees, breads, meats, produce and treats during the winter months? The Village Green Farmers Market, presented by the City of Fairfield and Fairfield Parks and Recreation, is moving next door for the winter. Starting November 9, stop by the Fairfield Community Arts Center veranda on the second Wednesday each month from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., November through April.

March 10, 7:30 pm: 
Cue the Orchestra!  Acclaimed conductor, Louis Langrée and the CSO bring us a 'trés chic' evening of French delights and Parisian inspiration. It's been 20 years since the CSO has been to Miami University, and we're excited to welcome them back. Don't miss this rare chance to experience their immense sound in the intimacy of Hall Auditorium!

Admission: $26 adult, $25 senior, $13student/youth

March 11, 7:30 pm: Jazz & Cabaret- Phil DeGreg & Brasila
The Fitton Center is delighted to present a stunning array of Jazz & Cabaret performers this season. The series will take you on a sensational musical journey, from the jazz clubs of Brazil and cafés of Paris through to the swinging 1940s and classic Broadway favorites, all performed in the intimate setting of the Carruthers Signature Ballroom.

Jeff Davis, Ohio Division of Wildlife Herpetologist, will be your guide exploring Salamander Run's early spring amphibian population. Wear appropriate clothes and shoes to walk near wetlands, fields and woods. Registration requested. Registered participants will be contacted if hike is canceled due to inclement weather. March 18-March 19, 
"A traveling boutique show with vintage flair!"
Ruffles and Rust is coming back to the Butler County Fairgrounds this March! Shop 'til you drop with handcrafted items, home decor, boutique fashion and more.

March 18, 8:00 am: Shamrock Shuffle
Put on your green apparel and lace up those running shoes for the annual Shamrock Shuffle in West Chester, Ohio. Irish or not, you're guaranteed a great time! The 2017 Shamrock Shuffle includes: Choice of 5k or 10K course, breakfast, t-shirt (guaranteed to those who pre-register), enhanced race features with disposable chip timing and water stations. March 18, 10:30am-12:00pm: Let's Go Hiking
Let's Go Hiking! Join other hikers each month for a speaker and a guided hike through a Farfield park! Registration required. Location: Miami-Erie Canal Bike Path. 

The Fitton Family Theater comes alive with this electric and eclectic new series of phenomenal shows, ranging from New York's hottest stage act to the return of our own Hamilton-Fairfield Symphony Orchestra to the Fitton Center.

Price: $20 for members; $25 for non-members

March 24, 7:30 pm- 9:30 pm Stargazing
Enjoy the fourth Friday of every month gazing at the stars. With help from the Cincinnati Astronomical Society and their telescopes you will be able to take an up close look at the moon, planets and stars that fill the night sky. Please register for days you would like to attend. 

A four-time "Entertainer of the Year (CEIA)," "Best Variety Act" and "Best One Man Show" nominee (Canadian Comedy Awards), Bob Cates is a Juggling Champion, clean comedian and physical variety artist that has been delighting audiences full time for over 22 years. He keeps audiences laughing with comedy routines involving advanced juggling, wild unicycling and balancing skills, magic, dance, black light, lasers, and an insane 21 real-plate-spinning finale that has to be seen to be believed.

March 25, 8pm: WintersEdge (Location TBA)
The Fitton Center is excited to continue its partnership with RiversEdge as the concert series' winter home this season, bringing local rock, pop, country and blues bands into the Fitton! This year, all of the WintersEdge shows will be FREE and open to all ages (anyone wishing to purchase alcohol will be ID checked). All bands are chosen in collaboration with the RiversEdge committee. This season the focus will be on presenting energetic local acts from the greater Hamilton and Cincinnati area.

March 28, 7pm: Music Café
Attracting regular patrons every month, Music Café is free to the public and is truly a wonderful experience offering aspiring musicians the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience. With participants from all over Southwestern Ohio, it has proven to be one of the Fitton Center's most popular series. Performances are the 4th Tuesday of each month in the Carruthers Signature Ballroom.
