From refugee to CEO: A Saint Paul success story

Bao Vang first came to the United States as a refugee in 1980 and has called Saint Paul home ever since.

"I love being in the city, being close to the various different stores and restaurants and the diversity," Vang said. "I like being in the community, and of course my work is in Saint Paul."

Vang graduated from Saint Paul's Como Park Senior High School and made the decision to pursue a four-year degree from St. Catherine University despite a school mentor suggesting otherwise.

The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation's vision is to connect in a significant way with chosen programs, making strategic contributions to achieve specific, measurable results enabling transformational change to benefit mankind.

The Schulze Family Foundation showed its support of children in Saint Paul by giving a $50,000 grant to the Saint Paul Public Schools Foundation to support the Tutoring Partnership for Academic Excellence.

The Minnesota Math and Reading Corps are members of our Tutoring Partnership and they are looking for full-time and part-time tutors in the Saint Paul and Minneapolis public school districts.

In addition to a living stipend, tutors receive an education award ($5,550 for full-time members).Tutors must be 18 or older and have a high school diploma (college degree not required).
