Jean O'Connell
Jean is a lifelong resident of St. Paul and a graduate of Central High School and the University of Minnesota, Duluth. She is currently the Chair of the Saint Paul Board of Education.
"It was in high school where I decided I wanted to be a high school math teacher."
Jean went to college at the University of Minnesota, Duluth to become a math and science teacher. She student taught but there were little to no jobs available when she graduated. At this time, there was an influx of baby boomers graduating and everyone was seeking jobs. Despite this set back, she ended up at 3M as an engineer and remained there for 34 years.
During these 34 years, she was in community affairs, quality, supply-chain and manufacturing positions. As a member of the 3M management team, she led significant change efforts, process improvements, and helped develop people and strong teams.
