APRIL 2016
Mayor Murray with youth at a recent Equity & Environment storytelling workshop

Hello Friends and Partners...
Welcome to "Earth Month" everyone! April is going to be another big month for our office and Seattle's environmental work. On April 22, Earth Day, Mayor Murray will be releasing the Seattle Equity & Environment Agenda--a blueprint to advance racial equity in Seattle's environmental work. This agenda is the result of more than a year's worth of work of engaging, listening, and supporting the community while they took on a leadership role in creating the strategy. I'm excited to share details of this work with you soon!

KEY SUSTAINBILITY UPDATES
Join Us for Livability Night Out - April 19
Join us for a "PechaKucha" style word slam about the livability of our city. Our very own Jessica Finn Coven will be one of the featured presenters at the Museum of History and Industry. Entertainment, refreshments, culture and chance to hang out with the Mayor and City staff - what more could you want for a Tuesday evening?  More info on this unique event here.
Engaging Environmental Organizations in Race & Social Justice Work
Seattle is widely known for its environmental leadership--a long held source of pride for our city. However Seattle, like all other cities, still has much work to do in ensuring environmental benefits are shared eqitably among all residents. We are working to strengthen relationships and collaboration and recently conducted a series of three workshops for mainstream environmental organizations through our Equity and Environment Initiative.  Learn more about this work here.

Leading by Example with Drive Clean Seattle
Drive Clean Seattle leads by example by investing in transforming the City of Seattle fleet. The Mayor has committed to reducing carbon pollution from the City's fleet 50% by 2025. The tools to achieve this ambitious goal are already available. Using a combination of electric vehicles, cleaner fuels, and advanced technology, our improvements will replace nearly 120,000 gallons of gasoline per year - that's the equivalent of about 400 passenger sedans. More info on the City's approach here.
Plenty of Ways (and Days) to Celebrate Earth Day in Seattle
April 22 is known around the world as Earth Day, but in environmentally minded Seattle there are great activities all month long so it's easy to celebrate "Earth Month". While the list of activities happening throughout the Seattle is quite extensive, we have taken the liberty to round up the Earth Day/Earth Month activities that are sponsored or organized by the City of Seattle. We would love to see some new faces at these events! More info here.
