Using the Connections Forum
The KAMU HCCN Project Team recently created a forum exclusively for use by members of Health Center Connections. Continue reading to get answers to the whats and whys of this tool and for information about how to use the Connections Forum.
What's a forum?
A forum, also called a message board, is a discussion site where people can hold conversations in the form of posted messages. Forums have specific jargon associated with them. Within a forum, a "thread" or "topic" is a single conversation, and a "post" is a single message within a conversation. Therefore, when you add something new to a forum, you're beginning a conversation, and when you comment on a conversation, you're adding a post.
Why use a forum?
Forums are used to ask questions of and share experiences with other members of an online community. In this case, the online community is Health Care Connections. Use a forum to ask questions that affect your health center and to assist other Connections members by responding to the various posts. Connections Forum topics include EHRs, workflows, best practices, CDS, HIE, patient portals, and meaningful use.
How do I access the Connections Forum?
Accessing the Connections Forum is easy. Simply click here or go to the Connections Forum by way of the HCCN Programs & Services link. You will have to log in to access this member's only resource. The welcome page includes a brief explanation of the purpose and use of the forum followed by a topic index similar to the following graphic. The topic index is just a listing of conversations within the forum.

How do I get a Connections user id?
Contact Dan Elliott at delliott@kspca.org to request access.
How do I add a conversation or post a message?
It's easy! To add a conversation, click on the word "NEW" in the topics index header. The page will refresh with Topic and Post boxes for you to complete. Once you click "Send Post," your conversation will appear in the topics index. To post to a conversation listed in the topic index, click on that topic. As with a new conversation, the page will refresh, but this time you'll see all the posts for that conversation similar to the graphic below along with a box for you to enter your comments. Once you click "Send Post," your post will be added to the conversation. Click here for a PDF of the instructions for using the Connections Forum. A link to this PDF is included on the welcome page.
