Kansas REC: Tremendous Change in EHR Adoption |
Michael Aldridge, Synōvim CEO, was recently interviewed by FierceEMR regarding the success of the Kansas REC and the increased adoption of electronic health records by providers. More than 1,200 Kansas REC participants are utilizing certified electronic health record technology and 730 have attested to Meaningful Use, which secured more than $14 million of Medicare or Medicaid EHR program incentives for those providers. October 3, 2013 is the last day to start your 90-day reporting period if you intend to attest to Meaningful Use for the 2013 Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs.
Medicare providers who successfully attest in 2013 are eligible to earn $15,000 more than those who wait until 2014 to attest. If you need help with the Meaningful Use measures or the required annual privacy and security risk analysis, contact Synōvim at 785-273-3031 or info@synovim.org. |
Mostashari to Step Down |
From the Desk of Michael Aldridge, Synōvim CEO
Farzad Mostashari, MD recently announced his intention to step down as National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (HIT). While everyone who knows Dr. Mostashari would agree that his enthusiasm will be sorely missed, the timing of his departure is not altogether surprising. As with Dr. Blumenthal, who also served two years as National Coordinator (2009-2011), Dr. Mostashari provided the skills and personality that were needed at the time.
Dr. Blumenthal helped initiate many of the studies on the use and adoption of HIT that are now being used to demonstrate its value and importance. This work set the stage for Dr. Mostashari (2011-2013) who leveraged Dr. Blumenthal's work and successfully developed policy which has accelerated HIT adoption among the nation's healthcare providers. He also laid a strong foundation to help facilitate health information exchange. Dr. Mostashari's departure is occurring at a time when we collectively transition from implementation to proper utilization and outcomes. With MU Stage 2 looming and increased focus on interoperability and patient centeredness, I anticipate the next national coordinator to bring expertise that will complement this phase of the healthcare transformation, and thus continue the trend of the right person, with the right skills and personality at the right time.
