Kansas REC Success in Numbers |
The Kansas REC is excited to announce more than 600 priority primary care providers have reached Meaningful Use on an electronic health record (EHR). KFMC's goal is to assist 1,200 priority primary care providers. (Click here to read the press release). At this time the REC has limited capacity to accept additional priority primary care providers for Free, exceptions may apply. EHR Incentive Programs: Clinical Quality Measures in 2014 | The final rule establishes that beginning in 2014, the reporting of CQMs will change for all providers, regardless of whether they are participating in Stage 1 or Stage 2. EHR technology certified to the 2014 standards and capabilities will contain new CQM criteria.

On April 1, 2013 the Lewis And Clark Information Exchange formally transitioned from the sole ownership of Heartland Health to a provider led Perpetual Collaborative Board of Directors that is comprised of hospitals, safety net organizations, individual provider practices, large employer and a patient/consumer advocate.

KHIN Amazing Growth-Expanding Opportunity |
The Kansas Health Information Network (KHIN) is a Kansas not-for-profit, health information organization that was created by the Kansas Medical Society and the Kansas Hospital Association. KHIN has experienced amazing growth since data sharing began in August 2012. As of April 1, 2013 KHIN had almost 270,000 unique Kansas patients in the exchange and is growing by about 10,000 patients a week. This growth is important as it allows health care providers to share important health information on patients they have in common by simply querying for their patient within their electronic health record system or by accessing the KHIN Provider Portal.

How Does HIPAA Omnibus Affect Covered Entities? (Part 1) |
As you may already know, the HIPAA Omnibus Rules have a significant impact on business associates and their subcontractors. The Rules also have a significant impact on covered entities. The first article in this series is a summary of changes related to business associates and the Notice of Privacy Practices; when available, a link to HHS resources is provided. All references that are noted "FR" refer to the Federal Register, Volume 78, No. 17 which is located at http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2013-01-25/pdf/2013-01073.pdf; this is commonly known as the HIPAA Omnibus Final Rule (hereinafter referred to as Final Rule). The compliance date for most of the applicable requirements of the Final Rule is September 23, 2013.

KFMC Helps Providers Transform Care |
The Kansas Foundation for Medical Care is pleased to announce a new partnership with primary care providers in Kansas that will transform provider practices into patient-centered medical homes (PCMH). KFMC will begin working with the following providers in March on this endeavor: Edward Lind, MD, Wichita; Family Care Center, Winfield; Bacani/McKenney Clinic, Fredonia; Northwest Family Physicians, Wichita; St. Francis Family Medicine at Hunter's Ridge, Topeka; and Matthew Floersch, MD, Manhattan. These practices will focus on PCMH initiatives that will enhance the overall patient experience through quality of care and patient engagement.
