It is about 12:30 am as I begin tonight's drivel. I had a fabulous evening with my old (they are not old they are just no longer) partners the guys from Seidler and my FCFO (Former CFO) Gary P. Our relationship started in 2004ish and one of, if not our first evening ended in a beautiful evening at one of my Dad's favorite places, Antenello's.
It seemed appropriate that our after deal get together take place at the same joint. They met us half way as they have an office towards Los Angeles. It was good to see them as they came into my life at a very important time. They allowed me a chance to fulfill a promise to my father to take care of his wife and her kids while allowing me to maintain control of the legacy known as PADI.
They were great partners and good friends and we all enjoyed the evening. They brought a great bottle of wine as a gift for me and I was proud to have brought a terrific wine to serve for the meal.
It was a 1995 Angelo Gaja Sori Tildin. This amazing Barolo from Piemont was really special. It was a dark inky purple, darker than most Nebbiolos. Some reviews have this being a viscous pour but this was not thick and chewy. It is in its prime with a smoky browned toast taste to it. You can pick up some berry taste to as well as other slight fruit hints.
Though I had two bottles with me, we added a 2004 Il Poggione Montalcino. It too was delicious, but maybe not quite as stellar as the Gaja. Rich vanilla and smoke hit me first and quite a bit more fruits and berries. It was a great pour to finish off the night.
As days go this one was chock full. We got up early and had the dogs out and headed out the door to meet our gardener at the office of a friend who was moving his office into my new building. Now we don't get too mcu rain in California so it was ironic to have drizzle on the day we were moving someone with out the benefit of a closed truck.
We made it and had Brian L. settled before 11:00am. Ghere I was, in the new bulding and I had taken care of a few to dos with Ellen who stopped in for a few signatures and project to address, but I was done by 11:15.
I built me drum kit which took about 90 minutes
Then I did the unthinkable, I played the drums and I must say, this set is sweet. All you have to is think about tapping of the pedals and the high hat and kick just happens. The close on the hi hat is sharp and tight. The Silver Bullet snare is amazing and the rolls to the toms and floor toms are effortless. This set even makes me sound good.
My first attempts we off the Doobies Brothers album The Captain and Me. Hard Thing and China Grove had me puffin sweat in about 10 minutes. The I put the iPhone on shuffle and played to Kenny Rogers, Neil Diamond, Keith Urban, Sara Bareillis, The Who and the list went on and on. I was feeling so confident, I played to Ronnie Tutt on the live 1969 version of Suspicious Minds.
I then set fire to my drum set just listening to Tutt and the mazing things he does as a drummer.
I made it home and showered before heading of for the amazing dinner. I am a very lucky man.
