It is almost 9:00 on Friday morning. I never get to start a blog this early, but I am waiting for Devin to be done with her shower. She does a lot of thinking in the shower. She will have a dozen things for me to do when she gets done. I can think of five or six myself, but it seems to work better when she actually comes up with the list.
Well, it really isn't a list, it is more of an arbitrary conversation with subtle directives implied or expressed, but not layed out with good task parameters. (In writing, time oriented, feasible, measurable, and flexible) It is my job to reassemble the verbiage into daily or weekly tasks?
Yesterday was a decent example. When Devin exited the think tank (shower), she asked, "How long is the Lexus going to sit in front of the house?" (For relatively new readers, we were fortunate enough to win tow cars and $2,000 in a three week period.) Now some people might have thought it was a genuine question regarding the length of time a specific care might be parked in front of our home.
Instinctively I knew what Devin was saying. "Take care of the car and have it gone by the end of the day." Though not in writing (until I put it on my to do list), it meat all the parameters of a good task. (time oriented, feasible, measurable, and flexible). So I devised a plan to execute this task.
The first thing I did was to confirm I was still going fishing as Dennis had contacted me about going Corbina fishing in Dana Point at low tide around 1:20 in the afternoon. Then I contacted my son in law who holds title to the Lexus as we gifted him and my daughter the Infinity Q5. I then contacted CarMax (Thanks for the tip Dana) and confirmed their operating hours. The plan was set in place.
I got my fishing gear and headed to Salt Creek. It was one of those post card perfect Orange County days. We got a beautiful views of Catalina which made it look like we could cast to it. The water almost like glass. The crowds were gone except for the indigenous surfers and a few very healthy sun worshippers which prettied up the beach.
The weather and sky were so perfect, Dennis and I could not get a fly anywhere near the many Corbina we could see. You see the Corbina's natural predator for 5,000 years were species Ursa, the bear. So they have incredible eyesight with eyes slightly rotated toward the top of their body. We could see them but it was well after they could see us. It was a wonderful day anyway, until I realized I had put Philadelphia Cream Cheese (SPF 75+) all over my legs except to the tops of my feet. The look like roast beef today.
Dennis came home with me to see my new guitar. Then I talked him into joining me at CarMax to sell Ryan's (son in laws) car. It was supposed to be an hour project that turned into a three hour ordeal. I was at the top of my game in negotiating a fair price.
They inspected the 2004 Lexus IS 300 and gave me a price and I said, "OK". Hey I was hungry. In a text exchange with Devin, I explained the deal and she asked if we could do better selling it our self and I said, "Probably, but I'm hungry." That is why I am not in charge of her health directives in her will and trust. She knows if I have to make a decision and its lunch time, just unplug her.
We made it home and Dennis joined us at Friends for a quick meal.
Today, Friday I got to enjoy a lunch with Miss Ellen. It was that time of the week for her to get my mail and for her to tell me how much money we spent. We got caught up on gossip and then I headed down to the Toyota dealership to get the paperwork for the second car we won.
It is a cute Prius C. It is a teeny tiny car, (Not as small as yours Tony, but close.) Tony is one of Jack's tutors and he has a mini cooper. I teased him a couple of weeks ago as our gardener was at the house using the leaf blower and I told Tony, that Miguel (our gardener) had flipped his car blow drying the leaves down the driveway. (But I digress.)
The finance guy at the Toyota dealership was amazed that I had won 2 cars in the same month. I explained to him about the two sweepstakes. He teased that I must have bought all the tickets. Then he asked me how many tickets there were. I had no idea. He eventually asked what he really wanted to know. "How much did you buy?" I answered, "Enough". We are still in the running for the Million Dollar House in Laguna. We will know November 3rd.
I made it back in time to join my family and head to another night of SMCHS Football. Coach Welch could not be compared to any "old woman of the village" this week as the boys in blue gave grid iron lessons to the J Serra. Harry could not let the school down as it was home coming week. Nice Job Coach.
From Left to Right, Devin, Jerene, Patti, ME, Mike, and Dennis
A view from the seats.
Looking forward to next week against Bosco.
