This Week in Mustang Athletics
Swimming
The Swim Team had a very busy week. Last week we swam against Canterbury and St. Stephens in a tri meet. Lots of very close races as well as close team scores. The Boys lost to both teams while the Girls beat St. Stephens and lost to Canterbury.
Over the weekend we participated in the St. Pete City Meet, swimming against both private and public schools. Most of the swimmers made it to either Championship or Consolation finals. Congratulations to Lindsey Leadbetter who won both the 100 fly and 100 backstroke. Overall the Girls placed 4th and the Boys 6th. Excellent result considering we competed against very large teams from St. Pete High, Northeast, Lakewood and Shorecrest.
Monday night the Middle School swam at Southwest Rec in Largo against Indian Rocks, Berkeley, Shorecrest and Tampa Prep. In some excellent competition, the Girls finished 2nd and the Boys 3rd. Congratulations to Faith Withey, first in the 200 Free and Maria Ellison, 1st in the 200 IM. Runners-up included Oly Gander in the 100 free, Robbie Blenis in the 200 free, Faith in the 50 free and Maria in the 200 free.
Tuesday night was the last home dual meet for the team. It was a special night to honor Colt Frear as the only graduating Senior. Colt, a homeschooler, has swam for the past 4 years, qualifying for Sectionals each season. He was recently accepted to Florida Polytechnic in Lakeland. His wish was to swim every event at the dual meet which he successfully accomplished last night, winning all but 2 events. The team competed against a much smaller team from Calvary Christian. Both the Girl and Boys scored easy victories.
Our last dual meet of the season in against rival Shorecrest on Thursday at Northshore Pool. After that we look forward to Middle School Champs and Districts. Special thanks to all who have attended and volunteered to work at our meets this season!
Golf
The Mustang boys golf team is wrapping up their regular season and are preparing for districts. The team has kept improving all season and are ready to make a run at qualifying for regionals. Robbie Vinson has led the team in stroke average and is followed by Hunter Flack, Max Roix, Kyle Goldberg, Zach Brown, Grant Walsh and Caden Bullard.
There will be opportunities for some of our Middle School student athletes to tryout for to the Middle School soccer team if they are not chosen for the Varsity team. Middle school soccer tryouts are on October 19th and 20th from 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
This lady mustangs hosted the annual Mustang Invitational and took first place in the silver division. On Tuesday we built on this momentum and defeated Admiral Farragut in three sets. The team was led by Junior Dani Beirman with 20 kills and Madi Brandes with 18 assists. Tonight is senior night. Come out and support our last home game at 7pm as we honor seniors Kelsi Sheldon and Darby Atkinson.

Middle school tryouts will happen November 2nd and 3rd from 3:30-5:15pm on the outdoor courts. There are some exciting changes in the basketball program this year. We are changing our style of play to better fit the athletes we have, and we have added some great coaches to the staff to help develop our players to a higher level. Coach Madasz will send out bios on the new coaches shortly.
