Reflection of the Week
Low Wage Button

After an exciting Easter weekend at Westminster, we invite you this week to continue the journey.  In our fast-paced culture we so easily forget that Easter is not a day, but a season of the liturgical calendar reinforcing that Easter is a Way of Life!  On Sunday our Call to Mindfulness will read; "As a people of faith we desire to make Easter a way of life, seeking personal as well as political transformation. Through mindfulness we are called to cultivate the transformation of the world by following Jesus of Nazareth and standing for what he was passionate about. Through addressing systemic issues of greater economic justice, less dependence on military power for our security, and
human rights for all, including environmental justice, leading us to a more economically just and peaceful world"

It is in this spirit that I will share a sermon on Acts 4:32-35a focusing on economic justice and fair treatment in the workplace, especially as it relates to wages. In worship we will hear from College of Wooster sophomore Dylan Hamilton about the Living Wage Campaign on the campus of The College.  To learn more about poverty in Wayne and Holmes County you can listen to the presentation, "Poverty and Dehumanization"  by Bobbi Douglas, Executive Director of Liberty Center, given at Westminster on Sunday, March 22, 2015.   If you want o read more about Sunday's service, click here to be directed to Westminster's website where you will find more resources for Sunday's worship.

Dries

Conversations with Dries
Sunday School Through the season of Easter into the summer we will meet in the Lounge for conversation (with one exception on Sunday, April 19 with the Gomes Choir visiting). Please join us this Sunday as we talk about everything Westminster and as we make plans for this summer.  See you in the Lounge from 9:30 am until 10:30 am (I will excuse myself at 10:15 to prepare for worship).  Our conversation will be of such a nature that teenagers can participate as well!
April Vegan Meal
Join us for the last Vegan Potluck of the academic year on Thursday, April 16, at 6:00 p.m. in Mackey Hall.  This meal is a great opportunity for WPC members, Wooster community members, and College of Wooster students to enjoy delicious food and good fellowship while learning more about sustainable living. Just bring a pot-luck dish containing no meat, dairy, or eggs (no need for students to bring a dish, but always welcome).

This month we will be recognizing the seniors who have been a part of the Vegan Potluck during their time at Wooster.  We hope to see you there!

RSVP through Sign Up Genius or to the Church Office.

Hygiene Kit Donations
Church World Services We have enough hand towels and washcloths to assemble 45 hygiene kits. To complete the kits we still need the following donations: 27 fingernail clippers, 23 wide-tooth combs, 9 individually-packaged toothbrushes, and 6 bath-size bars of soap.
People to People Donations for March & April

People to People logo

Think "breakfast" when you think about People to People food items for March and April - hot and cold cereals, complete pancake mix (just add water) and syrup are the most needed items. Peanut butter and jelly make tasty spreads for toast, too.

The donation bin is under the bench in the narthex.

Green Tip of the Week

Take a shorter shower. Every 2 minutes you save on your shower can conserve more than 10 gallons of water. If everyone in the country saved just one gallon from their daily shower, over the course of a year it would equal twice the amount of freshwater withdrawn from the Great Lakes every day.

Westminster Grafic Vertical
"We are an Intentionally Inclusive Church"
Westminster Presbyterian Church embraces the "house" metaphor for our community as we worship at the Westminster Church House and have a strong sense of hospitality and desire to be a welcoming and inclusive church for all. We endeavor to give voice to a "progressive" expression of Christianity that emphasizes among other things:
  • intellectual integrity in matters of faith;
  • acceptance of all people regardless of race, creed, age, cultural background, or sexual orientation;
  • openness toward the value of other religious traditions;
  • a strong commitment to social justice, peacemaking, and the care of our planet.
