Happy Holidays! While many of us will be at our homes enjoying the holidays with our families, Shorewood Police and North Shore Fire staff will still be on the job, maintaining peace and safety in our community. Public Works staff will be on call to handle salting, plowing, and other needs if they arise. We are thankful for all of our police, fire, dispatch, public works, and other public safety personnel for their extra dedication during the holiday season and their service to the community throughout the year.

2014 Tax Bills
The 2014 Village of Shorewood tax bills were mailed the week of December 8. These tax bills will reflect a 3.2% property tax increase for most residents. We have prepared a special notice to explain how the increase is partially a correction to regular tax payments as a result of the lingering impact of the 2011 assessment reporting error and the correction process that followed. Please follow this link for more information.

 Health Department Highlights
It's that time of year for the holidays as well as colds and flu. Remembering some simple practices to prevent infections can be helpful. These include:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with your upper sleeve, and try to avoid touching your face with your hand. If you use a tissue, throw it away after one use.
- Use your own drinking cups and straws.
- Avoid being exposed to people who are sick with flu-like symptoms.
- Eat nutritious meals, get plenty of rest and do not smoke.
- Frequently clean commonly touched surfaces (e.g., door knobs, refrigerator handle, telephone, faucets).
- If you think you have the flu, stay home, get rest, drink plenty of liquids and avoid using alcohol and tobacco. If your symptoms persist, contact your doctor.
For more information on influenza, visit
http://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/communicable/influenza/index.htm.
There are no clinics scheduled this week due to the holidays. The Health Department offices will be closed December 24 and 25.
The North Shore Health Department wishes everyone a safe and happy holiday! Back to Top |
