Plein Air was a Great Success!
This successful event drew audiences to multiple venues within Shorewood, from a dinner at Hubbard Lodge, to a block party at Shorewood's Kensington Square, to the Shorewood Library for a beautiful gala and sale of over 150 paintings of Shorewood. It also engaged the schools, with artists performing demonstrations prior to the competition.
Don Berg, Co-Chair, said, "When our Public Art Committee succeeded in acquiring and installing the Plensa sculpture and using it as a cornerstone for a Shorewood Art Celebration and Plein Air event, little did we anticipate the enormity of pleasure, excitement and encouragement to continue to make Shorewood an 'Art Friendly Community.'"
Attendance was high at all events. Business owners at the block party (attendance 2,000) with a Jumbotron, live band and the McMenamin dancers, report a record all-time high for sales.
Fifty-two artists participated and over 90% of them sold work at the Collector's Sneak Peek and Silent Auction. Check out pleinairshorewood.com for the list of winners, and a photo slide show of events and artwork.
Said Jenny Heyden, Co-Chair, "What a thrilling ride - from creating a new entity in Shorewood and bringing people together in interesting and meaningful ways, to awakening the heart and soul of the community for the community - plein air has been a joy and a gift."

Hydrant Flushing
The Water Utility will be flushing fire hydrants between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. next week. Please click here to see the time frame in your area.
Flushing will be done:
* in Area 3 the week of September 30 to October 4 This water will show up in your household as discolored water and have a yellow to orange to red color. This water, while unappetizing, poses no health threats. Running your faucets for several minutes will usually clear the household system and resolve all problems. Occasionally faucet aerators (screens) will have to be removed and cleaned to restore water pressure.
Please refrain from washing clothes between the hours of 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the week your hydrants are scheduled for flushing.
The discolored water can stain and ruin clothing if flushing occurs while you are washing clothes. Adjacent area's being flushed may also affect your water color.

Quotes of the Week
We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face... we must do that which we think we cannot. Eleanor Roosevelt

Health Tip
Get you kids some outdoor exercise by making fall yard work fun. Have kids come up with different ways to pick up leaves or pine cones (i.e., squatting, bending, leaning, stretching, or balancing on one foot).
|
Environmental Tips
When putting away your summer clothing, check to see if there is anything you can recycle for rags or to donate, also when buying new clothes why not revive your wardrobe with some vintage or recycled clothing.
