Plein Air Shorewood Next Weekend! Get ready for Plein Air Shorewood when our Village becomes a thriving artists' colony for three full days: Thursday, Friday and Saturday, September 19, 20 and 21. Fifty-three professional artists will be painting outdoors throughout the community as they capture our handsome parks, lakefront, river, business district and private homes in original scenes. Watch the artists in action up close and personal for three days and then meet them during special, after-hours social settings open to the community. (Visit pleinairshorewood.com for all the details.) Plein Air Shorewood will culminate with a Gala Reception/Auction on Saturday night from 6-10 pm. at the Shorewood Public Libraray, 3920 N. Murray Ave. when more than 150 paintings are auctioned off during this community arts celebration! The Gala is free and open to the public. Meet your friends and neighbors and gather to celebrate the arts in Shorewood. Village Board Meeting Monday, September 16, 2013 The Village Board will hold its regular meeting on Monday, September 16, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. The Board will:
- Consider a Zoning Petition to Amend 1111 E Capitol Drive and 3907-09 N Sherburn Place from B-4 River District Zoning to a Planned Development District. Click here for more info.
- Consider approval of a North Shore Fire Department resolution approving a "Single or Multi-Year Capital" budget to purchase Two-Way Radios, an ambulance and firefighting protective equipment for 2014 and 2015.

Long Range Financial Plan 2014
As part of the Village's annual budget preparation process, the Village Board met on Monday, September 9 to review the 2014-2023 Long Range Financial Plan. The plan is designed to provide an overview of the Village's finances to understand the context in which the Village will be making annual budgetary decisions during the coming months. As such, the plan includes a look at future capital needs as well as providing long-term budget projections. The current 2014-2023 plan document includes the proposed sewer improvement projects, annual road program and other capital projects. To view the long range plan, please click here.

 Vision Plan 2014 Update Village Board vision plan leadership committee will meet on September 18 at 6 pm to discuss the process and key demographics for the 2014 Vision Plan update. Vision planning is a strategic planning process that develops an image of what a community would like to be in the future and an implementation plan to get there. Petition for Direct Legislation
On August 26, 2013 a Petition for Direct Legislation was provided to the Clerk's office. The Village Clerk completed the certification process and deemed the petition sufficient in regard to the number of electors signatures required; and the petition itself and proposed resolution are sufficient as to proper form. The petition will be forwarded to the Village Board for action at the regular Village Board meeting to be held on Monday, October 7, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. in the Court Room of the Village Hall, 3930 N Murray Avenue.
The petition requests that the Village of Shorewood hold a referendum asking residents whether they would support a constitutional amendment to overturn the U.S. Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling, which states corporations have the same constitutional rights as people and can freely donate to campaigns.

River Site Senior Assisted Living Development Proposal Update
The Plan Commission met on September 10 on the proposed Senior Living Development for the River Site. At the September 10 meeting, the Plan Commission unanimously approved the zoning petition for the project.
The Village Board will consider the recommendation at this week's Board meeting. If approved, including a developer agreement, construction would begin. To keep up with the latest news on the proposed, River Site please visit the project site.

 Shorewood High School Instrument DriveShorewood High School students and community members will be collecting working instruments to donate to Haitian schools as part of the non-profit organization Musical Haiti. (Instruments that need small repairs will also be accepted.) The instrument drive is being organized and run by Maryann Desaulniers, a retired Marquette staff member, and her husband, Dan, both of whom are Shorewood community members. The instrument drive will be held on September 14 and September 28 from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. in the Shorewood High School parking lot. Back to Top |

 Shorewood Foundation will host its first Oktoberfest FundraiserThe Shorewood Foundation will host its first Oktoberfest Fundraiser on September 29 at Hubbard Park Lodge in Shorewood at 5PM. Enjoy buffet-style German food, polka music, and a live and silent auction. A variety of seasonal beers will be available for purchase, including Leinenkugel Brewing Company, Lakefront Brewery, Stevens Point Brewery and Big Bay Brewing Company. Tickets are $50 and include a free commemorative beer stein. All proceeds benefit the Shorewood Foundation - enhancing the Shorewood community since 1964.  Shorewood Library Fall Programming
The Shorewood Library's fall programs are ready to roll out. Here's a look at what's happening: - Pre-School Storytime starts up in September for a new crew of 3 and 4 year olds. Register beginning on Monday, September 9, with storytimes running on Thursdays staring September 28.
- Once a month from September through December we'll offer an evening of family fun with Craft Nights. Bring the whole family from young to old.
- The youngest tots may also have fun at Pop in and Play (for children 6 months to 3 years of age) where they will build critical early literacy skills through stories, games and free play.
- School-age kids are invited to leave their parents at home and head to Camp Half-Blood on September 25. It will be a Percy Jackson action-packed afternoon of trivia, games and more - all about Rick Riordan's awesome series.
- Teens 13+ are invited to Library Late Nights, October through December. At Late Nights, the after-hours library will be a teen-only quiet study space or loud game-playing space, while we make stuff or watch movies.

Quilt and County Fall Odyssey Trip Planned for October 2
The Shorewood Senior Resource Center (SRC) is planning a trip to the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts in Cedarburg followed by lunch at Galioto's Twelve 21 and a scenic route back along country roads featuring a stop for apples. Docents will guide participants through the featured exhibit, "Wisconsin State of the Art," a display of the winning submissions from a juried show for Wisconsin fiber artists. The museum is fully accessible and is located on a former 1800s farm, where participants will also see the blacksmithing shop and lambing shed. Lunch offers a choice of beef tenderloin tips or grilled shrimp. Luncheon choice must be made on the registration form.
The trip will take place Wednesday, October 2. The bus will leave the SRC, located on the lower level of the Shorewood Library, at 9:15 a.m. and return at approximately 3:30 p.m. The cost for Shorewood residents is $46 and the nonresident price is $49. This includes deluxe motor coach transportation, the tour, lunch, and bus driver gratuity.
Payment must be made with the registration form, which is available at the SRC office or by e-mailing Elizabeth Price, SRC Coordinator, at eprice@villageofshorewood.org. She may also be reached at (414)847-2727. The deadline for registration is Wednesday, September 25, 2013.
