New Plantings at the Library
Public Works horticulturist Judy Kaiser and her crew were busy planting Veronica Whittleyi and Butterfly Weed in the four landscape beds located between the Village Center and Village Hall. Each bed also has a centered Paperback Maple that has distinguished cinnamon colored peeling bark. The Veronica Whittleyi is a speedwell variety perennial with dark blue flowers and evergreen foliage. Last year, following a Shorewood Waters Project-sponsored public vote, the Butterfly Weed was named the Village's Official Native Plant. The previous plantings of Red Bud trees had verticillium wilt and could no longer be maintained.
The new plantings were made possible through private donations in the honor of former Friends of Shorewood Library Board member, Barbara Bachman and the Shorewood Garden Tour.

Song of the Month-August
August Song of the month is from our code compliance inspector, Justin Burris. Justin chose Johnny Cash's "One Piece at a Time". He chose this song because "I am a pretty big Johnny Cash fan and to pick just one of his song's song is quite a feat, however I chose 'One Piece at a Time' because it's clean, and I think it'll put a smile on the faces of all who listen". To hear the song of the month, click here.

Quote of the Week
One's philosophy is not best expressed in words; it is expressed in the choices one makes... and the choices we make are ultimately our responsibility. Eleanor Roosevelt

Health Tip

Environmental Tips
Replace your air conditioning filters once a month.Dirty filters restrict airflow and can cause the coil in your air conditioner to freeze up significantly increasing energy use. The savings can be up to 5% of cooling costs. |
