Song of the Month:
Although, we will never run out of good quotes, we thought we would add a new feature called "song of the month". This is the second month we have done it and next month a different member of staff will chose a song.
This month, Jackson Browne "The Late Show" from the Album Late for the Sky. An album that I wore out many times before CDS; and remains one of the most relevant oldies in my collection. To listen, click here.

Men's Club and ABLE Provide Braille Menus to Customers Audio and Braille Literacy Enhancement, Inc. (ABLE), in conjunction with the Shorewood Men's Club, is proud to announce that Shorewood will become the first community in Wisconsin to offer Braille menus in all of its restaurants. The cost is being covered by a $500 grant from the Shorewood Men's Club, allowing ABLE to produce the menus at no charge to the nearly 25 restaurants located in Shorewood. All Shorewood restaurant menus should be completed later this summer. ABLE is also looking for additional partners to help make restaurants more accessible in other communities in southeast Wisconsin, as Braille menus save time for wait staff and improve the overall experience for blind customers.

2013 Sidewalk Program
There are approximately 60 miles of public sidewalk pavement within the Village of Shorewood. To ensure these walks remain in good condition, the Department of Public Works administers a biennial sidewalk replacement program in each of six defined areas of the Village on a rotating cycle. All public sidewalks and carriage walks in the target area are reviewed and defective areas are identified for removal and replacement.
The 2013 project area is located in the southeast area of the Village (to see map, click here.). Sidewalks which have been identified for replacement have been marked with white paint and notices of assessment have been issued to affected property owners. Public walk replacement is assessed to the adjacent private property owner at 100% of the cost (on a corner lot the secondary frontage is assessed at 50%).
Work is scheduled to begin the week of July 8th and is anticipated to be complete by late August. For more information, please visit the DPW's Construction and Infrastructure Management web page or call 414.847.2650.

Quote of the Week
As I visited the various neighborhoods in the campaign, I learned fast that it's a mistake to think that all of the wisdom and possible solutions to our problems are available only in this building.
|
Health Tip
Keep children away from campfires and grills. Gas leaks, blocked tubes, and overfilled propane tanks can be a cause of grill fires and explosions.
|
Environmental Tips
Consider changing your bulbs. Incandescent light bulbs are heat generators, so many experts suggest switching them for energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs or halogen infrareds to keep heat down during the summer.
