 Culver's Night for Shorewood's 4th of July!

Shorewood's 4th of July parade has the potential to be the biggest and best in the North Shore area again this year, but we need the help of the community in order for that to happen.  We need to raise $7500 to bring in three drum and bugle corps, the 150 member Spirit of Atlanta, the Racine Kilties and the Pioneers.

Join Shorewood Intermediate School students at Culver's from 4 to 9 p.m. as they volunteer their time to greet guests, provide musical entertainment, and deliver food to tables and cars.  10% of all proceeds (walk-in or drive-thru) will be donated to Shorewood's 4th of July parade.  Please help the students in their efforts to bring these three amazing drum and bugle corps to Shorewood!

Reminders to Pet Owners

Pet licenses are required within 30 days of ownership for dogs and cats ages 5 months and older.  Licenses may be obtained at Village Hall, 3930 N Murray Avenue between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.  Proof of rabies vaccination and verification that the animal has been spayed or neutered (if applicable) is required when licensing your pet.  Extra pet licenses are also needed if you have more than two dogs, two cats or any combination totaling more than two.

Pets require a lot of maintenance and care.  Pet owners are responsible for this care.  They are also responsible to their neighbors and the Village of Shorewood to see that all ordinances relating to owning a pet are obeyed.  No person shall walk a dog or cat beyond the limits of their own property without carrying or having in their possession a scoop, bag or item designed to pick up and remove any unwanted dog or cat excreta.  It is also unlawful to dispose of the dog or cat excrement on public or private property other than the owner's own property.  This includes throwing the excreta into the sewer system or neighbor's trash can.

Pets are not allowed to walk in the parks, on the beach, or any school grounds in the Village of Shorewood, even if on a leash.

Men's Club Chicken BBQ

For the last 42 years, the Shorewood Men's Club has held their Chicken BBQ on the second Saturday in June (June 8th this year). It is one of the summer's first events and helps start the many summer activities Shorewood has to offer. All money raised at the BBQ goes back to the community in the form of grants and scholarships.

The Shorewood Men's Club, a civic group founded in 1956 is a strong supporter and popular group in the Village of Shorewood. The group was originally founded as a way for men to meet, get to know neighbors and a way to give back to the community. Please support the Shorewood Men's Club by attending their Annual Chicken BBQ at Atwater Park on Saturday, June 8 from 11:30am to 7:30pm. For the first time this year there will be a limited number of half slabs of ribs dinners for $12! There will be chicken, ice cream and music all day. Good food, good music and good friends - a great way to enjoy your day. For more information visit www.shorewoodmensclub.org/chicken_bbq.htm

Prevent the Summer Slide

Studies show that kids can experience a setback in reading skills during the summer months.  Avoid this by getting your kids library cards and signing them up for the Library's Summer Reading Program.  Every child who registers for a library card at the Shorewood Library by June 15 will have their name added to the Library Card Wall of Fame and be entered into a drawing for gift cards from Shorewood businesses.  A parent with photo ID and proof of current address must be present.

Quote of the Week

What's money? A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and goes to bed at night and in between does what he wants to do.
-Bob Dylan

Health Tip

If you are heading out on a road trip, pack a cooler to avoid eating all that fast food. Use solid ice or reusable gel-filled ice packs on the bottom, pack food, then fill in the gaps with bags of cubed ice. Remember to fill the cooler all the way up; the ice will melt faster if it's full of room-temperature air.
Environmental Tips

When possible, cook on the grill to keep cooking heat outside. Ovens heat up your house and make your cooling system have to work harder.
