CITD Leads Tour of Manufacturing Facilities in Tijuana, Mexico
As part of the activities leading up to this year's Manufacturing Day, the San Diego CITD led a tour - in collaboration with the Center for Applied Competitive Technologies at San Diego City College and Baja California's Secretariat of Economic Development (SEDECO) - of manufacturing facilities in Tijuana for companies interested in business opportunities in the border region. More than 24 participants, which included business owners & representatives, as well as trade specialists and economic development professionals from both sides of the border, boarded a chartered bus provided by SEDECO and participated in the tour that began with a visit to Mexican Customs' import facilities.  During the visit to the import facilities - which was arranged by Tijuana Customs Administrator, Jorge Fernando Boy Espinosa - the group took a guided tour of the import inspection facilities and heard about the process for importing goods into Mexico, including the documentation required and how merchandise is inspected. More than 1,800 commercial crossings take place through this facility per day.

CITD at BajaMak 2016
BajaMak 2016 marked the industrial trade show's 11th year promoting supplier opportunities in Baja California's growing manufacturing sector. This year's event, held on October 20th, was unique due to the fact that BajaMak's organizers hosted Baja California's Medical Device Cluster's 9th installation of their MedSummit trade show. MedSummit is organized by the region's medical device manufacturers, many which have their corporate offices in Southern California. BajaMak typically includes the participation of industry contacts in varied industrial sectors, including: medical, automotive, aerospace, electronics and sub-sectors like plastics, metal mechanics and packaging. With the presence of MedSummit at this year's show, there was an increase of medical device companies who showcased their supplier needs.

The Deputy Sector Navigator for Global Trade & Logistics for San Diego & Imperial Counties (DSNGTL) and San Diego CITD, in collaboration with LINCS (Leveraging, Integrating, Networking, Coordinating Supplies), will begin offering courses in Supply Chain Management that will prepare participants for certifications through the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP). LINCS is a national supply chain management education and certification program funded by a $24.5 million U.S. Department of Labor TAACCCT grant.

The LINCS program offers eight different certification tracks, including: Supply Chain Management Principles, Warehousing Operations, Transportation Operations, Customer Service Operations, Demand Planning, Manufacturing and Service Operations, Inventory Management, and Supply Management and Procurement. Participants can complete one track, or all eight, depending on their individual educational and career goals. All courses are available through a self-paced online learning system and enrollment in the program is currently available at no cost to participants.

After completing a course, participants may sit for a SCPro Fundamentals certification offered and certified by CSCMP. Upon passing the exam, the participant receives a certification in the particular skill sets tested by that certification exam, making them more competitive in obtaining and sustaining employment.
