The Manufacturers' Council of Inland Empire held its 4th Annual Manufacturers' Summit on February 19th at the Riverside Convention Center. The event helps to promote manufacturing jobs and provides area manufacturers with relevant information on the most pressing issues facing their industry, including regulations, workforce development, resource efficiency, exporting, marketing and more.

 

Two of this year's breakout sessions focused on opportunities for manufacturers to expand their business through global trade.

Through a multi-year collaborative process, 
San Diego Regional EDCBiocomCity of San DiegoCONNECTGO-BizPort of San DiegoQualcommSan Diego County Regional Airport AuthoritySan Diego State University, and UC San Diego have been working together with nearly 400 local businesses as part of the Global Cities Initiative, a joint project of the Brookings Institution and JPMorgan Chase, to develop a global trade and investment plan for the San Diego region. 


 

On March 11, the San Diego Regional EDC and its partners will jointly release the plan and announce a series of programs to assist in maximizing San Diego's global competitiveness.

The Southwestern College Career Center will be holding a Global Trade & Transportation Showcase on March 17th, 2015 from 9:30am to 12:00pm at the college's main campus in Chula Vista. The showcase is an opportunity for students and faculty to learn about programs and career opportunities in the Global Trade & Transportation fields. 

 

The event will feature a Q&A panel with local trade and transportation-related professionals and the Deputy Sector Navigators for Global Trade & Logistics and Advanced Transportation/Renewable Energy, as well as an Industry Showcase where students can interact with employers in these fields and obtain information about educational/training programs offered through local colleges and universities.

Mexico's Manufacturing Supply Chain Summit 2015 in San Diego, CA is a unique opportunity for leading OEMs in Mexico and potential suppliers to meet and identify new business partners.

 

Mexico's manufacturing and maquiladora industries are growing significantly and the automotive, aerospace, electronics, electrical and medical sectors need to expand their supply base. 

The Supply Chain Summit will match potential buyers and suppliers in pre-arranged, one-to-one, private meetings. The program will allow participants to identify new potential business partners and request meetings based on their choices.

The Mexican aerospace industry has grown dramatically in the past 10 years, not only in its traditional home of Queretaro state, but now in Baja California.  Mexican aerospace has grown from 100 U.S. and European manufacturers in 2004 to over 300 in 2014.

 

The San Diego Chapter of the Aerospace and Defense Forum, an organization comprised of more than 1,000 industry senior executives and professionals, will be hosting an event on March 24th to discuss opportunities for U.S. based companies in Mexico's growing aerospace manufacturing sector.

The Deputy Sector Navigator (DSN) for Global Trade and Logistics - San Diego & Imperial Region, and Grossmont College's High School/CTE Partnership Program, will be hosting a workshop on April 21st for local high school teachers to determine how global trade and logistics concepts can be incorporated into their current classes.

 

Teachers participating in the workshop will work with industry professionals to identify where these concepts may intersect with core academic classes. The ultimate goal for this project is to develop lesson modules and case studies with relevant application to Common Core State Standards and increase student awareness of career opportunities in the field of Global Trade.

 

 

Over the last 26 years, the Otay Mesa Chamber of Commerce has organized what has become the region's premier industrial trade show. Known as MEXPORT, the trade show's goal is to facilitate this cross-border trade by promoting supplier opportunities with major manufacturers in the Southern California/Baja California region. MEXPORT 2014 drew more than 180 exhibitors spanning everything from industrial equipment companies to freight forwarders and customs brokers from both sides of the border, and this year's event, to be held on April 23rd, is expected to draw more than 2,000 attendees. 

 

Don't miss this opportunity to access the $13 billion supplier's market within the Baja California manufacturing industry.

The U.S. Commercial Service, San Diego CITD, Ex-Im Bank, and California State University San Marcos, will be hosting a Medical Technologies Export Workshop on April 24th, 2015 at the CSU San Marcos campus. The workshop will cover export opportunities for medical-related products in various markets around the world, including supplier opportunities in Mexico.

 

Workshop attendees will receive a free Healthcare Technologies Resource Guide with profiles of the healthcare industry in 49 countries, the Health IT/eHealth in Europe 2014 Report, a list of healthcare/medical technologies products that buyers in Mexico are looking for, a list of overseas distributors interested in sourcing new products from U.S., and information on financing programs available through Ex-Im Bank.
