Southwestern College President and San Diego CITD Director Accept Presidential "E" Award

The Center for International Trade Development (CITD) initiative was presented with the Presidential "E" Award at the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office Board of Governors meeting on July 8th in Sacramento, California. The award, created by President John F. Kennedy in 1961, recognizes persons, firms, or organizations that make significant contributions to increasing U.S. exports.

 

There are nine CITD's across the state that provide international trade assistance to thousands of small and medium-sized businesses each year. Representatives from the centers were in attendance to receive the award from Chancellor Brice Harris and Board of Governors President Manuel Baca. Southwestern College President, Melinda Nish, and CITD Director, Victor Castillo, accepted the Presidential "E" Award on behalf of the San Diego CITD.

Southwestern College and CITD Awarded Global Trade & Logistics Grant

As part of its Doing What Matters for Jobs and the Economy framework, the California Community College Chancellor's Office has awarded Southwestern College and its Center for International Trade Development (CITD) a grant for workforce development in the Global Trade & Logistics industry sector. CITD Director, Victor Castillo, will be the Deputy Sector Navigator for the grant.

In addition to providing technical assistance with international trade to small and medium-sized businesses, the CITD will also help establish career pathways and further curriculum and training in Global Trade & Logistics at community colleges throughout the San Diego and Imperial Counties region.
CITD Participates at "La Idea en Accion" Event

More than 30 entrepreneurs from across San Diego participated in a training event designed to help them grow their small businesses. The event, called "La Idea en Accion", featured a panel of business advising experts, who shared their knowledge in topics such as credit, finance, business management, international trade, and more.This local event, hosted and coordinated by Accion San Diego and Univision, is part of a larger initiative called "La Idea", launched in 2011 by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The initiative was developed through a public-private partnership that includes the U.S. State Department, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Inter-American Development Bank, Boom Financial, International Diaspora Engagement Alliance, Overseas Private Investment Corporation, Small Business Administration, Univision Networks, Accion, Wellspace, and FHI 360, as a way to support collaboration between entrepreneurs in the U.S. and Latin America, with the goal of encouraging job creation and economic growth. La Idea connects Latino entrepreneurs to local and regional small business support centers and provides them with resources and connections to help them take their business to the next level.

 

International Trade Specialist, Gustavo Guerrero, presented information on services available through the San Diego CITD to help small business owners grow their business internationally. 

Baja's 4th Annual Aerospace Supplier Forum



Join the San Diego CITD at the 4th International Baja Aerospace Supplier Forum, which will take place at the Baja California Center on August 29th, 2013. This Forum will bring together Buyers and Suppliers from the aerospace sector from all over the world. The Forum will provide attendees with an overview of current and future opportunities within Baja California. They will learn how to establish an effective, efficient and price competitive presence in the world of the aerospace industry.

MedSummit 2013



The Baja Medical Cluster along with the State's Economic Development Secretariat are organizing the "Supplier's Day of the Medical Industry" to take place at the Baja California Convention Center on September 06, 2013.

 

The purpose of the Medical Summit is to develop local and regional supplier base for the medical device manufactures located in the State, by improving the competitiveness of regional supply and the attraction of key new investments.

 

Attendees to the event will be medical device manufactures, local and foreign suppliers, regional universities and industrial chambers and associations related to the medical industry.

 

The event will feature a variety of activities:

  • OEM and Supplier exhibition
  • Specialized workshops
  • Business meetings
  • Investment seminars
  • A visit to two (2) medical plants (this will take place on Thursday Sept. 05 and will be free of charge *first come first serve basis*)
