Notes From the Top
Dear Families,

As we embark on this long Memorial Day week-end, I am moved to consider some of the qualities we admire and respectfully celebrate as a country on this occasion.

What we honor is heroic sacrifice and bravery.  We acknowledge those who nobly gave of themselves, even unto death, for a purpose they believed was greater than themselves. On this day we can recall and honor those we know have lived lives of service and sacrifice for the good of others.

This consideration of acting for a higher purpose for something that is of service to others is a quality that brings us together as empathic human beings and builds a strong society.

This is a quality that we aspire to develop every day.

Best Wishes for a memorable long week end.
Warmly,
Diana Lam

Parents, Take Note!
  • The last Spirit Day of the year is next week!
Our last Spirit Day is on Wednesday, June 1!  The theme is "On Fleek," so our student should be dressed to impress. You can help end this year on a high note by making sure your children are dressed at the top of their game for next Wednesday!
  • Dear Families,
This year we will have an end of the year social gathering for all families, staff and board members at the Boston Nature Center, 500 Walk Hill Road, Mattapan on Thursday, June 2nd from 5 - 7 PM. The event will be an opportunity to share our culture - both our school culture and our social and ethnic cultures by sharing a potluck meal and some fun activities. All students have received a flyer for the event and I have attached one here as well. RSVPs are NOT required but will be appreciated so we can plan the handouts.

Two of the activities will be chances to "share our expertise".
    1. We would love to have parent volunteers lead a cultural activity such as a dance lesson or a craft activity. If you are interested in leading such an activity, please get in touch with me in the next couple of weeks so I can plan for materials.

    2. We will have a table of information about our expeditions and forms for families to use to say how they would like to volunteer as an expert in the future. Are you a chef? Our K2 students next year could use your help planning a cooking project. Are you a construction worker? Our 1st graders learn all about building and would love a guest speaker! Do you like to chaperone for cultural events? Make sure you are on the list so we know who to call.

We are hoping for a super fun family event on June 2nd where everyone has a chance to eat and mingle and share recipes and stories. Please join us!

  • The 4th Annual El Sistema Showcase is coming up!
Join us this year for the annual convergence of El Sistema programs throughout our city! It will be a day of workshops and collaboration, culminating in a fabulous concert with four unique ensembles comprised of El Sistema students.

This year, the Showcase will be at Boston Latin, 78 Avenue Louis Pasteur. The traditional Venezuelan lunch will be served!

Outstanding Students This Week
