Notes From the Top
|
We live in a diverse world and at this school we celebrate diversity but we must also consider unity. There is incredible power in coming together in unity - around a common goal, a common belief, a shared inspiration and ideally all three.
It is easy to let offenses, bitterness, resentment, anger, judgement and criticism keep us from experiencing unity and peace. We look at the world around us, the near and the far-flung, and see how many are falling prey to this divisiveness.
As a school, we must persevere in what we know will be beneficial to all of us. Listening carefully to each other, being responsible for our actions, showing respect towards all and keeping an open heart will bring us closer together and establish those bonds that give us strength. Together we can continue to forge an amazing center for learning where we will all thrive.
Have a beautiful week end.
Warm regards,
Diana Lam

Decision Made Regarding Space for Next Year
|
| |
| |
For the safety and well-being of the greatest number of our students, it has been decided that grades K-1 thru 2nd grade will be assigned to the DCAS site 133 Hancock St., Dorchester and grades 3 thru 8 will remain at 2120 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester. Much thought and discussion with our entire school community went into this decision, as well as intense review of the responses on the survey that was sent to all families. These groupings will provide the maximum space for all grades and there will be additional space at each site. The school sites are in closer proximity to each other and that will allow for our students and faculty to go back and forth more easily.

Dear Families,
This year we will have an end of the year social gathering for all families, staff and board members at the Boston Nature Center, 500 Walk Hill Road, Mattapan on Thursday, June 2nd from 5 - 7 PM. The event will be an opportunity to share our culture - both our school culture and our social and ethnic cultures by sharing a potluck meal and some fun activities. All students have received a flyer for the event and I have attached one here as well. RSVPs are NOT required but will be appreciated so we can plan the handouts.
Two of the activities will be chances to "share our expertise". 1. We would love to have parent volunteers lead a cultural activity such as a dance lesson or a craft activity. If you are interested in leading such an activity, please get in touch with me in the next couple of weeks so I can plan for materials.
2. We will have a table of information about our expeditions and forms for families to use to say how they would like to volunteer as an expert in the future. Are you a chef? Our K2 students next year could use your help planning a cooking project. Are you a construction worker? Our 1st graders learn all about building and would love a guest speaker! Do you like to chaperone for cultural events? Make sure you are on the list so we know who to call.
We are hoping for a super fun family event on June 2nd where everyone has a chance to eat and mingle and share recipes and stories. Please join us!
