Notes From the Top
|
Our students have been enjoying many exciting fieldwork opportunities in these past two weeks. Just yesterday, our fourth graders, in conjunction with their Solar System expedition, were doing fieldwork at the Museum of Science. They went to the Planetarium and participated in a scavenger hunt to find space related information throughout the museum and the staff complimented them for being very respectful. And, today the sixth graders conducted fieldwork at the salt marsh at the Waswetuset Hummock in Quincy, MA. Expert scientist Dr. Anamarija Frankic accompanied and introduced them to the salt marsh ecosystem and the plants and animals that live there. And, the seventh graders revisited the Savin Hill Cove site to conduct water quality testing.
I hope you were also able to read the Boston Globe article featuring the efforts of our 7th and 8th grade students to advocate for a Frederick Douglass Memorial in Roxbury. This Saturday, they will be attending the community meeting at Northeastern University where the Boston Arts Commission will be discussing their plans for a new site. Four students will do a musical performance of Amazing Grace, with spoken-word verses form Frederick Douglass autobiography.
This coming week we will be holding two parent meetings about how to configure grade levels in the facilities for next year. The Lower School meeting will be held on Wednesday and the Upper School on Thursday. Both meetings are scheduled for 7:15 a.m. We are also planning a couple of opportunities for both parents and staff to tour the new facility on Hancock Street. I hope to see many of you at these meetings.
 Warm regards,
Diana Lam

PARCC testing is about to begin! Testing will be from May 9 to May 13 for grades 3-5, and May 16 to May 20 for grades 6-8. Testing will begin each morning at 7:30. As explained by PARCC, the test "is to provide high quality assessments that will allow parents and educators to see how a child is progressing in school and whether they are on track for postsecondary success". This testing is extremely important, and it is imperative we all follow the test's rules for the duration of the testing period. From May 9 to May 20, NO VISITORS, INCLUDING PARENTS, are allowed in the school building after 7:30 AM. This rule will be enforced, as it is the law! If you have any questions, please email Elise Mostello at emostello@conservatorylab.org
