Tomorrow, we will all gather together at John Hancock Hall, under the guidance of our parents and our Resident Artists. We will greet our friends and family, buy snacks, and settle in for a concert. And I am confident that we will all be surprised by the performances we see onstage.
The halls of Conservatory Lab have been filled with even more sounds than usual over the past month: I have heard children not only playing their instruments, but singing, planning, and giving each other feedback. In their preparations for Spring Fling, our students have not only been working towards a better performance, they have been finding their voices.
At our school, in training students to become scholars, artists, and leaders, we focus on helping children to develop their own voices through music and writing. This semester, students have, through their own volition, gone beyond that standard. They have used their time working in teams, fine-tuning projects, and mentally preparing themselves for performance to find the nuance in how they choose to express themselves.
At Spring Fling, we will celebrate how the support of our parents and teachers creates a unique and powerful student body. But we will also see how our students have found their own power through working with each other.
I hope to see you all there!
