Family Notes
February 5, 2016
Notes From the Top
Dear Families,

Well, we are now definitely in the midst of winter, all the earlier balmy
temperatures last week to the contrary.  And in school, the mode that has
enveloped our students and teachers alike is "engagement"! It is the path to developing passion for learning. Projects are underway and students seem less frustrated or discouraged as they approach a difficult task, knowing that
there are adults in the class who are there to assist, guide or direct them to a
positive conclusion.

Our students are becoming more engaged as their teachers consider how a given project or strategy will enhance or undermine learning for their given students. Projects are prepared keeping in mind, not only intellectual, but   emotional, behavioral, physical, and social factors as well. The concept of "engagement"
may be largely understood in terms of internal states such as enthusiasm,
curiosity, optimism, motivation, or interest.

When the students are excitedly engaged in their tasks and asking deep and interesting questions, all involved experience joy, and joy is a lot less tiring
than the frustration that comes with student apathy.

Have a wonderful, albeit snowy, weekend.

Diana LamWarm regards,
Diana Lam
