Family Notes
January 6, 2015

Dear Parents,

Next Tuesday, January 12th is a day of extreme importance for the future of Conservatory Lab Charter School.

On that day the number of Conservatory Lab parents present at 6:00 p.m. in the conference room of the Shelburne Community Center will be the most important deciding factor for a positive ruling by the BRA on the school's behalf.

It is imperative that our school have at least 200 parents present at this meeting! Literally the future of the new school building in Roxbury hangs in the balance.

Please make every effort to be present on this day.  There will be child care available. For those of you who have attended either of the other two BRA meetings and have a school t-shirt, please wear it when you come.

You, the parents at Conservatory Lab, are the best spokespeople for the school, stating its value for you and your families to the BRA. I am attaching some talking points for you to think about before this meeting.

Conservatory Lab is a good fit for Roxbury in Bartlett Place because:
  • We are one of Boston's best public charter schools, encouraging 400+ children to become scholars, artists and leaders thru academics and music education.
  • 70 Roxbury families are already part of our school. That number will climb once we're here, and more families join the school lottery.
  • Some people oppose us, saying we don't add economic benefit to the area. They couldn't be more wrong.
  • Building our $35 million school will create 350+ jobs, spurring $25 million in local spending in Roxbury and nearby communities.
  • Our 73 employees want to work, shop, and eat in Roxbury. In year one, our plan is for at least 9 Roxbury residents to work at the school.
  • Thousands of visitors will shop, eat and attend our concerts in Bartlett Place.
  • We will spend 10% of our annual $7.5 million budget in Roxbury
I am confident that you will attend this most critical meeting.

Warmly, Diana Lam
