Family Notes

Notes From the Top
Dear Families,

As the first half of our school year is drawing to a close we wish to reach out to all of you for the very earnest effort and dedication you shared with us to make this year of transitions a good one for all our students.

As we often say, challenges are opportunities and we have taken many opportunities to make our school better prepared and more responsive to the needs of our student population.

We are delighted to see the collegiality that exists between our academic and music staff, our classroom teachers, interventionists and learning specialists. We have increased our classroom resources, designating two teachers to be in every classroom thus, allowing each classroom to build comprehensive academic and behavior plans, differentiate instruction, and provide more small group instruction involving intervention and community building activities. This along with a change in the schedule will allow us to focus on specific needs of our students in both academics and music.

Thank you for your support as we tweak our schedule and align our teachers with the students' needs in order to maximize our teaching and learning.

Our very best wishes to you for happy and memorable holidays.

Kind regards,
John Chistolini
Interim Head of School
Best wishes,
Nicole Bradeen
Principal

Parents, Take Note!
  • PLEASE NOTE that there will be a BRA meeting on Tuesday, January 12. This is the most important meeting held by the BRA. We absolutely need 200 parents at this meeting. The meeting will be at 6 pm at the Shelburne Community Center, 2300 Washington Street, Roxbury, MA 02119.

  • As a result of  observations and conversations with parents and faculty,  a schedule change will begin in January.  The decision to implement this change is based on a desire to  to maximize our teaching and learning, as well as student engagement.

    The two hour El Sistema blocks have been divided into two- one hour blocks; the numbers of students that will transition in the hallways has been minimized which will help us maintain a calmer, more focused environment;
    finally, the schedule will allow us to bring on more full-time Resident Artists which will allow them to be more fully involved with students throughout the school day, increasing their time to build relationships, and ultimately fuel student success.

    This change will take effect as of January 4. If you have further questions, please contact Nicole or Josue.
